Bliss!

I had a migraine coming on when I left the office yesterday. I was able to ignore it while I was at work, due in large part to your support of my apathy. My post on not caring currently has 170 comments, which I take to mean that you don't care, either, and you feel very strongly about it. So. Migraine. I do not like them, Sam I Am. I have one of those cubey things (in the birch finish, IIRC) and I absolutely love it. Love. It. It makes me happy. I keep books and pants and other important things on it.

Books and pants both definitely fall into the Important Things category! I was going to get a second one for my bedroom, with those wonderful baskets that fit perfectly into the cubes, and use that instead of a dresser. And then I realized that I am far too likely to buy enough clothes to fill all the baskets if I do that, so I got a dresser instead. I'm considering a second cubey thing for the livingroom, though, that would go against the mostly useless wall.

I don't use the baskets. Jeans and shorts and neatly folded sweatshirts (slightly dusty) aren't ugly enough that they have to be hidden.

The socks that I rarely wear are in a basket, but it's not one of the ones that's "supposed" to go with the shelf, just another one that fits the holes.

My folding is not always tidy enought that I'd be willing to not hide my shirts and shorts. And I'm pretty sure I'd hear my mom's voice in my head telling me how much nicer my room would look if I had proper drawers or at least baskets.

was it not possible to put a trash can or something underneath the a/c so that it would drip into the can? because turning it off was craaaazy.

It would have required a small wading pool to catch all the water. There's a lot of it, and it is dripping from the entire bottom surface of the AC unit. Argh. I seriously thought about piling up six or seven more towels underneath and just leaving it on, but I wasn't sure whether it needed to be dry when the repair people came to work their magic and I didn't wand to take any chances.

My fingers are crossed and double-crossed that you will have a truly work AC tonight!!

And your cubey thing looks great! So much storage! Good work on that assembly job. That must have taken a while.

It took forever. For. Ever. I made the mistake of assembling it on its side instead of flat on the floor. That made the assembly much, much easier, but the whole thing came loose when I tried to stand it up to put the top on, and then I had to start over. I was most displeased. I think it would only have taken 45 minutes-ish if it hadn't been for that and my inability to get on of the cardboard boxen open. Argh.

I bet there were some indelicate words uttered.

But you did it! So cool!

What's your dresser like?

I bet there were some indelicate words uttered.

If by this you mean I swore like a sailor, then you are absolutely right! But it is done now and it is beautiful and I shall put things on it and gaze adoringly at. Oh! I need a second one. It will be a display case for shoes!

My dresser is also from Ikea. It's the Malm 4-drawer chest. This is it:

I'm so glad you're happy, dear! x

After a year in my apartment, I still don't have shelves for my CDs and DVDs. I want to have something made for them actually, but don't have the money right now.

Ooh, something custom made would be lovely! What is your dream shelf-y thing like? Would it be simple or ornate? What would it be made of? I love hearing about people's furniture loves. :)

It would definitely be simple, probably made of wood, birch possibly. I'm sort of undecided on the material, though. I'm contemplating glass doors as well for dust protection, but we'll see.

Dust protection is a marvelous thing! I've decided I quite like birch. I've always loved darker woods, but since moving into an apartment with windows in only two rooms, I've become rather fond of lighter colors. Birch is especially pretty.

I love it that you call your cat (cat?) "Crazy Eddie". That's hilarious!

Oh, yeah, Crazy Eddie is a cat. He's also sometimes called OCJCrazy Eddie. I adopted a cat named Linus from a rescue shelter, and since I live alone and work all day I wanted to adopt a friend for Linus so he wouldn't be lonely during the day. Eddie, whose name was Oreo at the time, seemed a good fit. He was feral, so he wouldn't be immediately competitive with Linus for my attention. He was also far less likely to find a home than a non-feral cat. And he's so pretty! I lurved him immediately.

I wasn't wild about the name Oreo and as he didn't seem attached to it I renamed him. He was Charlie for a while, which fit with the Peanuts theme (my Jack Russell, Snoopy, lives with my parents), but that seemed a bit much. He was Jeffrey (named for my favorite character from Coupling) for a while after that. Finally I settled on Eddie, for Eddie Izzard. This was all before I brought him home. Having to spend a few weeks being called a series of different names would probably have made him crazier.

He isn't actually crazy, as ( ... )
