Wiscon is the one con I'd be super excited to attend (pre-all of this) as we've discussed elsewhere, and I really hope they make some changes so that I feel comfortable doing so.
It's so fascinating watching antarcticlust's feelings on the matter. She was one of the people involved in making the Frankel decision, and then, when the uproar happened, she was taken aback by all the people saying why she didn't consider THIS fact or THAT fact...
... and she's finding out that a hell of a lot of relevant information was withheld from the committee.
She is PISSED. And rightly so. So the rest of us are seeing that the REASON the Frankel subcommittee came to the decision they did was because they were lied to and manipulated. Maybe only accidentally -- but it is so amazingly mind-boggling to imagine a process that leads to that kind of result.
I am not clear on the motivation behind the particulars of the information selected for the subcommittee...nor why the subcommittee was solely relying on the materials presented, rather than coming in with some understanding of the state of things within the wider community.
