(Really) Last non-wetsuit swim of the year

 Managed to get over to Pure Austin North around 3pm. Down at the water by 10-after. This was to be my day for 4-laps. I had time, I had the wetsuit. The board said the water temp was (still) 68f. It really wasn't though. Theres no way it was more than 64f ( Read more... )

You need to do both if you can. The ability to handle open water only comes from swimming in it but speed comes in the pool. Quick and longer repeats teaches you body to go faster and keep the same pace....

So incorporate both in your training and see if you can find a local Masters team (USMS.org) to practice with. You can get your stroke looked at and have company in the gray prison... :-)

Thanks for the heads-up, one of the USMS sessions is at the lake between 6-7pm, that can't be happening over the winter, waaay too dark.

I'll look into one of the coached sessions in the spring before returning to the open water. I have drills to get me through the winter, I just need to decide where and when to swim.
