The nature fairy vibe just doesn't work with Maleficent. Though -- if tumblr is any confirmation -- I liked that Diaval was more than just her annoying raven familiar

I just don't like the idea of them giving her a sympathetic backstory in the first place. The thing I always liked about her was that she was just evil for no reason (I don't accept jealousy at not being invited to someone's christening as being the real reason for her flinging curses around).

I'd probably watch it if it was on the telly though.

I also love plain old evil Maleficent, but I can understand why Disney is now more open to 'reinterpretations' of their classic characters (bring in big bucks through new merchandising opportunities).

It's worth a watch if it does show up on tv.
