[Enter a very confused Gaila, still dressed in her cadet uniform and not looking too happy. It takes her a second to realize she's not in the same place she was before and that the officer she'd been interrogating is nowhere to be seen.]Okay

[ picard pauses, catching the name of his ship, and turns around, eying the orion's outdated uniform and realizing she probably means kirk's ship and not his ]

I'm afraid that is a complicated answer.

[ he responds in his european bravado ]

[She turns and faces the man, hands on hips and still looking rather annoyed.]

One of them isn't. Unless you don't know yourself. Where are we?

Starbase Infinity, is what I was told this place is called. As for it's exact location and how you were brought here, I'm afraid I do not know.

Hm. Are there any others? There were a lot of people around me not too long ago and none of them are here now...

Gaila! How are you this evening? Is that a new outfit? You look as ravishing as ever I must say.

[Gaila turns to him, eyebrows drawn together in confusion, but she smiles at him anyway.]

Thank you...but, um, who are you? I don't think we've met...

[He looks a little confused himself]

Oh. I'm sorry. Didn't we meet yesterday? I showed you to the bar. You're an engineer on the Enterprise.

[The way the red outfit clings to her is...quite fetching.]

I am, but I don't think we've ever met. And I was supposed to be, but they've apparently re-assigned me without letting me know...

[She frowns, tilting her head and studying the man. She really can't remember ever seeing him before and she feels kind of bad about it, especially since he's being so sweet and friendly.]

I'm sorry, but I really don't remember if we did...What's your name? Maybe that'll help jog my memory.

[aeruginous]

[ she knows it isn't out of the question to run into another version of herself, but she certainly hadn't expect it to happen so soon. gaila's alarmed, to put it mildly. ]

Uh, not here. [ you owe yourself more eloquence. ] This is a nexus, and... well, I'm you. Hi there.

[She can't help it - she does a bit of an open-mouthed double-take when she sees...herself standing there.]

Hi...me. What are we doing here?

[aeruginous]

It's called Starbase Infinity. [ she says with displeased affectation because, really, she doesn't like that name. it's ridiculous. ] People from Starfleet are pulled here and -

[ just then takes in her other self's outfit. ] You're still in your cadet uniform.

[jadeskin]

[She nods, then gives her other self a once over.]

Yeah. And...you're not.

[jim does a double take, and he sounds startled when he speaks]

Gaila?

[jadeskin]

[Oh boy, someone she knows who isn't her! Gaila grins at Jim, almost bouncing over to him.]

Thank God, I'm not the only one I know here. Do you know what we're here for? Was there a change in the orders or something?

[in_three]

[she was always so happy that sometimes it was mind boggling to him. she was also wearing something different, and judging from what she was saying- this definitely wasn't the Gaila he met before]

You don't know what's going on yet?

[jadeskin]

[Her grin fades a bit, but she's still happy to see him, despite his tone and expression being somewhat...forboding.]

Uh, not really, to be honest. The other me [wow, that was weird to say] said something about a nexus. And a different reality.

[sickbay]

[ bones knows when he's around an orion. he feels even more short-tempered than usual, and the fact that that alone bothers him turns their presence into one big vicious circle for him. still, the gentleman in him wins out: he can't in good conscience just leave her there. plus the pheromones have pleasant effects too, not that he'll admit it. ]

You're in Starbase Infinity, just as vague a place as it sounds.

[jadeskin]

[Gaila knows she's seen this man before, but she can't quite remember his name, something that's bugging her. But she pushes it aside and smiles at him.]

Thanks. How'd I get here, or is that detail as vague as the name?

[sickbay]

It is. I don't know what the current theory is, I've been a little busy cleaning up after Jim.

[ yes, there is a tribble on his shoulder. it took to perching there and mccoy just forgot to care at some point. and jim he doesn't mind namedropping because, on closer inspection, this is one of the girls his friend had been cavorting with before their assignment. gaila, if he remembers correctly. ]

You said you were assigned to the Enterprise?

[jadeskin]

[Oh, now she remembers who he is - Bones, Doctor McCoy. She couldn't place his first name, though, but then again she can't remember Jim ever actually using it.]

I was. There's apparently been a mix-up. Or I was told the wrong ship.
