Fiddle/Tabla!

I've been offered a gig playing fiddle at the wedding of an Indian woman and an Irish guy in August. They're hiring a tabla player as well, and we are to invent our own musical fusion. I'm a long-time fan of tabla, and can't wait to try this out. The question is whether any traditional Indian rhythms get along with the rhythms of Irish tunes. I'm ( Read more... )

Oohh yes yes yes! I have a cd that you should listen to (a sitar-cello-tabla fusion and the cello is actually kind of built like a sitar) I went and saw them live and heard so many Irish tunes in the classical Indian ragas they were doing. Mmm! Also, some chord progressions featured in a lot of good folk I listen to (Burt Jansch etc).

So, yum!

What a great idea for a wedding!!!

Kewl! Yes, I would love to borrow this CD. Maybe I can try to arrange tunes with lots of open-string drones or something to mimic a sitar....
