I feel a little odd writing this particular post, because I don't know how often (or if ever) my parents google me or read this, and of all the sacrilegious and uncouth things I've said on here, I've never bashed a movie my mother recommended before. Had to laugh at your bashing...I liked this movie, and thought the gameshow storyline held the whole darn thing together fairly well. However, I found the plot, acting, and all the rest insignificant compared to the camera work. That one shot with the dog in the foreground in the opening sequence is breathtakingly beautiful...I would like to see it again wearing earplugs just to give my full attention to the way it was shot. Can't get that dog image out of my head...

The "backstory" plot I have no problem with. In fact I enjoyed it. It's the recurring "present day" plot that I can't get around. Maybe I take it too much at its word when it opens as a story about whether or not Jamal will escape the slums (and win the girl, but we don't learn of that until much later ( ... )
