A brief survey of things.

Writing Group went well. I think that was out most successful dissection of a feature film yet. Brie's Parting Gifts is in good shape, but not in so good of shape we couldn't find things that needed work. Otherwise, why are we meeting?

I feel a little odd writing this particular post, because I don't know how often (or if ever) my parents google me or read this, and of all the sacrilegious and uncouth things I've said on here, I've never bashed a movie my mother recommended before. Today: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, which was pretty damn good. I kind of feel like they rushed the second part (I won't ruin it, in case) and in doing so, took what might have been a good, well balanced story and made it a bit of a Spielbergian Clusterfuck Ending, but otherwise gorgeous and well done. I feel bad being so disappointed by the Coens' multiple wins, but come on, There Will Be Blood was a whole other caliber of film. The least they could have done was given P.T. Anderson the best director nod. Still, No Country was a fantastic film, and like I said: I feel bad begrudging it any "success ( Read more... )
