If you haven't already, you should listen to this. The listen link is toward the top of the page, which is the transcript.

You do realize that the weasel-talk is Exactly for the same reason as politicians not yet in a position of power over you use it; so they can claim that they agree with Whatever BS someone else spouts long enough to steal your resources (time, money, energy, etc ( ... )

I have often wondered about the finances of large organized religions. I can see how much property they own, and even with tax exemptions and volunteer labor, they have to have some high overhead.

Oh, I disagree that religion is an alternative control system. In many cultures it is the primary control system. Even America, where "Church and State are separate" we are a very Christian country where freedom of religion is more being able to go to what ever church you want to on Sunday then the true religious freedoms of an agnostic or multicultural nation.

After all, the whole nation shuts down for Christmas, but try missing work for a Jewish High holiday, or a Solstice ritual, or taking time off for Ramadan. I don't mind New Years, and Thanksgiving and Forth of July, every nation has national holidays, but from the "In God we trust" on the money to the Bible the President swears in on, this is a protestant Christian nation with a high tolerance for other cultures, NOT a nation with true separation of Church and State.

Heh. I occationally run around my head with "am I talking to God or my Jewish Superego(tm)?", but in the end it's rather 6-of-one. As long as He isn't telling me to eat babies or anything - babies are too hard to cook properly!

It's probably not a Jewish Superego then. "No origes until half an hour after you eat!" "OK, OK. How about now?" "Yes, yes, now is fine. But don't forget to wear your rubber! You wouldn't want to catch a virus!" "But we've all been tested!" "You know you always catch a virus this time of year, listen to your Superego!" "Alright, alright."

I can guarantee you my ex-Catholic upbringing did not give me a Jewish Superego.
(Okay, Mom was an atheist, Dad was Catholic, my SuperEgo is more of an agnostic with a mild mannered secret identity)

I have a Jewish wife though, does that count?
