I make these a lot. If you cover them in chocolate you have "chocolate salty balls" and can sing Chef's (from South Park) song about the balls. Good times.
mix up the peanut butter mix like normal, then when you are forming them form them around a dollup of jelly so they are jelly filled and then rolled into crushed cereal..
So I tried them again with some grape jelly and grape nuts.. still FREAKING amazing.
Something like this once came in a kids' cookbook as a sort of edible play-doh. It used the honey, powdered milk, and peanut butter, but none of the other goodies.
I think you're right about the wheat germ. My family never had any around, though, so I think we just skipped that part. I'll have to check next time I'm in town - my mom's still got the cookbook, I think.
i make this with my kids all the time, the younger ones use it to make letters and learn letter formation and early reading.. then they get to eat their work.. good times ::grin::
