Do canned tamales taste anything like the real thing?

So what do they taste like? Are they anything close to the real thing?

Umm, no. I live in California and I really like Mexican food and buy homemade tameles every chance I get. These are really mushy and the meat is the consistency of deviled ham. The sauce needed more spice, I used garlic and cumin. They weren't really bad just different. I think I would like them more mixed up with other stuff like the recipes given on this thread...

These taste as much like real tamales are much as chef boyardee raviolis taste like the real thing :)

OMG. This reminds me. My mom makes tamale pie
2 cans of tamales broke up
2 cans of chili
1 can of cream corn
1 can of whole kernel corn
2 cans of olives
as much cheddar cheese as you can handle

mix it up in a casserole dish and bake it until the cheese is bubbly goodness. then NOM
