Oestrogel

Nov 22, 2011 08:00

Hello. I need some help...

I'm trying to switch from ethynil estradiol (0,035 mg per day) to oestrogel. What dose of oestrogel is preferred after consuming ethynil?
I heard after ethynil natural-like estrogens will be less effective because of receptor's tolerance stuff...

Also what amout of gel is equivalent to oral 17-beta esradiol?

Thank you.

oestrogen-dosage, oestrogen-transdermal

The only way to be certain is to get blood tests done, but a typical transition dose of oestrogel is about 4 squirts from the pump packed oestrogel, which is 5g of gel.

Recently i done blood test on the morning.
I was consuming 3 squirts for two weeks: one at the morning and two at the evening.
Before analysis i haven't used my morning dose.
And result was: 180 pmol/l
So it's enough, yes?

I have a fear that despite enough amount of 17-beta estradiol in my bloodstream, my receptors will not "like" them after ethynil therapy. Hope it's not true.

Sorry for my english if something wrong. =/

It's best if the blood tests are done about 5 hours after the larger of the doses and you should have a result that is greater than 450pmol/L, or at least that is what my endocrinologist likes. The type of therapy shouldn't affect the sensitivity of the receptors. Some drugs have a greater affinity to receptors than natural hormones, but eventually they flush out of the body and the receptor response returns to normal.

If I remember correctly, when I move from oral pills to gel, my endocrinologist gave me 1.5 pression per mg of oral estradiol (I had 4mg a day -> 6 pressions).

I haven't had ethynil. I had patches which were supposed to deliver 150 mcg per day through the skin. Moving from patches to gel was decidedly approximate. I went from 150mcg of patches to four squirts of gel (two, twice a day). A friend was directed from 100mcg of patches to two squirts.

At a guess then, your 35mcg works out at one. That's really not very much.

Ethinyl estradiol has a much longer half life then 17b estradiol, so a small dose circulating round the body for a comparatively long time has effects equivalent to a much larger dose of 17b estradiol. The 'rule of thumb' for oral delivery used to be EE dosage was 1/75 of 17b estradiol. So 35 mcg EE was roughly equivalent to 2.625 mg 17b estradiol. Further difficulty arises in trying to equate oral delivery to transdermal, since the bioavailability ought to be much greater with transdermal
