I'm out and looking for jobs. Some places have rejected me for it, and everywhere that hasn't rejected me is using my preferred name and pronouns.

Before my name and gender marker were changed, I disclosed before employment. I made that choice because I would rather be rejected for a job than be harassed and discriminated against at work. However, it didn't always work, because some employers (mainly bigger companies) do their hiring via HR people who don't actually work there -- all they do is interview applicants, and you never see them again. In one case I disclosed to the person I interviewed with, who said it was fine, but it was not fine at all; the actual manager of the store was highly transphobic and pushed me out of the job by refusing to give me enough hours. (I learned of this from a sympathetic co-worker who heard it from the manager.)

When applying for jobs after that, I always asked if the person interviewing me would be my supervisor. Often they are, but it's better to know, so you don't get in that situation.
