IME, a sufficiently long time on HRT rounds the hips out through fat deposition.
Regardless, plenty of cis women have "boyish" hips, and it wouldn't disqualify them from medical treatment. Gender specialists offering sartorial advice when asked may be appropriate. It sounds like what happened here was unsolicited and tactless though.
Sorry to hear about that. It sounds like a wretched experience. To be honest, I think it might be appropriate to name and shame, if you're comfortable doing that.
I take it this was Dr Barrett? Because it sounds exactly like the same kind of crap he said to me about wearing t-shirts. I mean, god forbid that a man wears a t-shirt instead of a button-down, right? >_<;
My advice would be to do what I did: complain, in writing, and then refuse to have another appointment with him and see Dr Lorraimer or Dr Lenehen (sorry- not sure how to spell her name...) instead. I ahve found both of them to be much more normal and understanding people, where as Dr B has always been aggressive, judgemental, and unhelpful.
*massive hugs*
Guve me a ring if you want to talk, k? Or text me.
That person does not know what he is talking about. At. All. Plenty of trans female folks wear jeans. And look awesome in them. Furthermore, just from my own experience... I get wrong-pronouned less when I am in jeans than a skirt, not more. And no, I don't have hips either.
You're not going about anything the wrong way! Don't ever forget that this is YOUR life and YOUR family and YOUR body, not his. He can spout bad advice all he wants - that does not give him control over YOU. So my advice is to block all of his tactless, asshole comments from your mind and keep living in a way that makes sense to you. *hugs*
Seriously if there's anyone else you could see, consider switching to someone who wasn't teleported out of the 50s. Besides the bad attitude, thinking women can't wear jeans is absurdly behind the times.
You've hit the nail on the head there- this particular doctor behaves as if it's still the 50s down to a tee. >_< I swear, I have no idea why they still let him practice.
