A series of random transition questions!

Yes, I'm here asking a series of transitioning questions for the group tonight.

1. How many of you had facial feminization surgery? Were you satisfied with the results of your appearance/passing?

2. Did you find laser or eletrolysis cheaper? How much per session/hour did you typically pay?

3. A couple of people have mentioned to me before that when ( Read more... )

1) Not had FFS

2) Electrolysis is cheaper per session generally, but I spent a lot more on it (on my face) in total.

3) I had a small amount of regrowth from HRT. The developing bald spot at the back of my head recovered (it wasn't actually bald, but the hair there was getting very distressed and sparse), and the triangles on my forehead filled in a little. I'll be having hair transplants later this year.

1) Not had it, but occasionally consider it. Probably never will.

2) As auntysarah said, electrolysis is generally cheaper per-treatment, but the amount of treatment required is much greater. The "standard practice", especially for someone with dark hair and light skin tones (as your userpic shows) is to do six to eight laser sessions first to get rid of the bulk, then electrolysis to clean up the remaining.

3) Over 12 years and I haven't seen any appreciable repair to my hairline, but then again, my sister has deep temples too, so it just is what it is, I reckon...

Oh haha, my hair is actually blonde, its just dyed in that picture, so my facial hair is fairly light.

From what I know, laser will not work on light-colored hair.

My gf had FFS. I really wish she hadn't - I don't think she needed it, and the rhinoplasty left her with a deviated septum and scars along her chin and hairline because her surgeon fucked the surgery twice. She's still glad she did it, as far as I know, though, and is planning on having the rhinoplasty revised when we can afford it.

I've known very few people who actually need FFS to be passable and attractive.

Would you mind sharing with us which surgeon did that? Eeek.

I've noticed people close to us tend to be squicked about us having FFS and I think I can understand why. But my family and friends who swear that I'm SO PASSABLE aren't there when someone yells at me while crossing the street. Also, this is sometimes kind of hard to accept (esp. for trans women), but.. being passable is not a requirement for being attractive. But on the other hand, being attractive doesn't necessarily keep you from getting clocked and harassed/discriminated against/etc. Personally, I'm probably going to have some FFS procedures, but only for those features that are most outstanding, not the whole package in order to eliminate any possible trace of "maleness."

It was a Dr. Spiegel, though I don't know an exact location. He messed up twice, and then when she called him on it, trying to get her money back, he accused her of harassment and told her never to contact him again. Overall a very not-happy experience.

And she still gets clocked from time to time, though I cannot for the life of me understand why. Since the implants that's gone down a bit tho - somehow DD's make people read her correctly. ;)

i'm not particularly passable but then again I'm really not into be femme. Most people cant tell what gender i am, or identify me as male, but then again I am 6 foot 4, very fat, and big!

if I could be arsed to do something about my voice it would make a big difference

if you decide to have electrolysis your looking at around 2-3 hours per week for the first couple of years this will gradually tail off to 15 to 30 minutes at 5 years plus

if you decide to have laser this is typically about 10+ half hour sessions spread over a year to two years. After that you will need to some electrolysis to remove white hair

laser is painful but it is nothing like as painful as electrolysis

1. I went ot Spiegel in Boston. I'd rate my satisfaction as 9/10. I think I loss 20% of nerve sensation in a liitle patch under my lip and on the top of my head. The hairline was what I expected, but not what I hoped.

The reason I went for FFS was not as much about passing so much as looking in the mirror, or touching my own face, and seeing/feeling myself. I decided what to undergo by taking a good long look and feel, and trying to figure out which parts of my face felt like a CGI rendering error or prosthetic makeup - which parts provoked a reaction of that just isn't supposed to be thereBut it helps with being read as (cissexed) female, which is kind of important as I'm a butch and can't exactly rely on my attire or hair as a way of getting read right ( ... )
