Hydroponics was simply amazing.

It was relaxing. That was the best way Aerith could describe it. She was sure there had been plenty before her to make this observation, though. Still, it was comforted her in a way she'd needed. Even if it wasn't the planet, her planet, it still gave her a sense of peace. Despite it being an artificial environment ( Read more... )

Miyako hadn't been on the ship for no longer than a month - maybe? Time was so odd here - but in that short time, she'd seen a lot. At least three alien worlds, two of which were hostile as heck. However, she did have a few of her friends here, along with her Digimon partner, with her.

At the moment, though, she was resting on a nearby tree, idly playing with the knife she'd taken during that first mission. It wasn't much, at most just a keepsake, but the whole thing showed how helpless she was. Her attention was cut off as she spotted Aerith passing by.

"Oh, hey there!" she called out.

Aerith was lost in her own thoughts, and hadn't noticed Miyako nearby until she'd called out.

Turning, Aerith spotted Miyako's tree. Walking over, she offered a friendly smile, happy to see someone else. She'd met a handful of people on the ship, but hadn't gotten out to really see many of the crew members. So it was nice to meet someone new.

"Hi! Isn't this place great?" She gestured at their surroundings, still excited about it. "I can't believe it took me so long to come here."

"It is, isn't it?" Miyako said, putting the knife away. No need to frighten the her. "You wanna sit down? Plenty of room!"

She offered her a big smile as she spoke, the offer genuine.

"Sure!" Aerith immediately sat beside her, getting comfortable with her back against the tree. Realizing she hadn't even introduced herself, she turned to offer a hand to Miyako.

"I'm Aerith. It's nice to meet you."

Terry was really starting to dig Hydroponics. At first, the place had felt almost suffocating, with all the plant life. Terry had grown up in a world of steel and concrete, choked with pollution. Hydroponics was strangely exotic to him, and quickly becoming his new favorite hang-out.

He was content to just sit under a tree and relax, but he wasn't against socializing a bit. When he saw Aerith, he called out, "Hey."

Aerith had become sufficiently distracted with one of the animals that ran past her - was that a rabbit? The sound of Terry's voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and she looked over to see him under one of the trees.

Making her way over, she smiled. She knew she was probably being really silly about this place, but the atmosphere made her want to wrap herself in it like a blanket and stay forever. It was the most comfortable she'd felt since arriving.

"Hi! You know, you're the second person I've seen under a tree. Maybe I should claim one myself."

Terry smiled warmly. It was odd, but he was happy to find someone on the ship that didn't seem to be as serious about saving the world or upset about the end of the world as most of the crew mates were. Not that they didn't know how to cut loose or anything, but this girl somehow seemed like she didn't have to.

"Yeah, they're pretty nice. But I'm not used to trees, so I don't really know how to judge one."

Aerith looked up at the tree he was under, studying the top. "Growing up, there weren't any trees around my home. I had a crash course in them once I left, but I find them comforting." As she said this, she placed a hand against the trunk. It was still strange to come into contact with plant life and not hear the planet in her mind.

Shaking her head, she shrugged as she looked back at him. "I think the best way to judge a tree is if its standing and healthy. And maybe if it's easy to climb, but I've never done that before."

Book had taken a shine to the area himself. So many of the border worlds, especially further away from Alliance planets, were so sparse on plants that farming was a hard fought struggle with the rocky soil. Like the place he ended up in. He didn't mind having a break from such places for a long time.

"It's impressive, isn't it? So much life in one small area," he commented in passing, admiring an unusual flower in bloom.

Aerith nodded, studying the same bloom. She couldn't quite name the species of flower, having only been limited to what she'd encountered back home. It was a beautiful one.

"It is impressive. There wasn't life like this where I grew up," she mused, thinking back to Midgar and the desolate state of the slums she had once called home. "I used to grow flowers there. It was very rare that people even saw such things."

Aerith blinked down at Aang, his rolling arrival completely unexpected. She smiled, kneeling down so she wasn't towering over him.

"Hi! It looks like you're enjoying yourself. Can't say I've rolled around in the grass before," she said, running a hand over the tips of the blades, tickling her palm.

(ooc: totally understandable, take your time!)

At Aang's suggestion, she tilted her head to the side, trying to imagine herself rolling around in the grass so carefree. Maybe when she was younger, but now...

Shaking her head, she gave him an amused look. "I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it like you are. I'm happy just observing."

Zouichi was in Hydroponics, playing with a brightly-colored parrot. Or rather, watching it play for the moment. Alan dipped and wheeled through the tree branches, occasionally returning to Zouichi's shoulder for a treat or some attention before taking wing again.

It was quiet this time of day, something the both of them could appreciate.

Once she caught sight of the bird, Aerith watched it for a few minutes. There was quite a collection of animals here, even some she'd never come across before. The parrot was bright, the colors catching her eye and once she saw Zouichi she made her way over.

"Hi!" She beamed at him, nodding toward the bird. "He's so colorful, I haven't seen a bird like that before."

"Hello." Zouichi nodded politely to Aerith as he held out his wrist, allowing the bird to land on him and hop its way up to his shoulder. "He is, isn't he? His name's Alan. As near as I can figure, he's something like an Earth conure. I got him on one of the shore leave planets as a fledgling."

Alan peered over at Aerith curiously, chattering a little to himself in a way that sounded rather like a feline. He'd been hanging around Howard's cat lately.

The sounds Alan made were curious, but he was still a beautiful bird. "I see. I never had a pet, it must be nice." She leaned forward a little, taking a closer look at Alan but keeping a respectable distance. She didn't want to startle him.

"You said Earth - is that the planet you're from?"
