YAMATO SECTOR

Oct 11, 2011 21:04

In an island area of the park is the sometimes staid, sometimes festive Yamato Sector (which seemed strangely familiar to some of the crew, no doubt). Souvenir swords? Okonomiyaki? Sunset beaches filled with the SPRINGTIME OF OUR YOUTH? Medieval warlords drinking wine from human (shaped) skulls? They're all here!

Jr. finished off the takoyaki, tossing the stick in a nearby trashcan and taking a seat next to Zouichi-- or rather hopping up into the seat. Tall stools.

"Shoyu, here! Thanks."

And as he waited for that order, he decided to try some of his okonomiyaki. Savoring the taste of it, he nodded. "Of course I did! Though it's less reacquaintance between us and more getting acquainted with," a wave of the hand, "you know, everything."

"Well, I guess that would make sense... after all, to them it would seem like you'd only recently parted company." He glanced over at Jr.'s okonomiyaki. "Hey, don't give yourself a stomachache, okay?"

"Anyway, I guess it's nice we're coming here before setting off on another mission. It's a little more friendly for the new arrivals than sending them off to get shot at."

The young purple-skinned lady behind the corner produced their orders, setting them down in front of Zouichi and Junior. She smiled at them as she refilled their glasses of water.

"Oh, your son is just the cutest. Here's your ramen!"

"Son..." he repeat-mumbled under his breath and looking very unamused.

"Oh, no, I'm not his father. We're--"

What looked suspiciously like a completely unrelated man and a little boy separated from his parents. UH.

"He's my cousin," Zouichi said, smiling.

"Oh, how nice!" said the ramen worker. "Here, have some gyoza. It's on the house!"

Yeah, she totally bought it.

Once the worker was out of earshot, Jr.'s stifled laugh turned into a slightly louder one.

"Haha, she believed that!" He reached out for one of the gyoza. "And hey, free food for it, too. Way to go, Zouichi!"

Zouichi raised his hand in a (discreet) high-five gesture. "I can't believe she thought I was that old, though."

And discreetly, Jr. obliged with a high five. Maybe the discreetness made it more of a middle-ground five. He looked Zouichi up and down after that, overexaggerating a look of analysis on his face. "Yeah ... I mean, you don't look that old!"

"I know, right?" said Zouichi. "I've aged well."

He picked up a piece of gyoza, tasted it. Not bad. "So, what are your plans for the rest of the time here?"

Chewing on his food, Jr. looked thoughtful. "Hmmm..." He hadn't really had iron-clad plans. With a shrug, he swallowed. "I'm not sure, really. I guess I'll just wander around and see what kind of places I can find. What about you?"

Zouichi smiled a little. "Well, same here, basically. I'm supposed to meet Howard somewhere for some kind of arcade games. Maybe I'll pay that Kitten Land or Kitten World place a visit. I wonder if they have dinosaurs, or an underwater area... but I think I'll finish looking around here first. I understand there's supposed to be a fireworks show a little later."

As soon as she caught wind of a festival, she decided it was something she wanted to see. Aerith hadn't attended...well, any celebrations back on Gaia really, and she wanted to take full advantage of this opportunity.

She was drawn to the booths, the bright colors, the food. It reminded her a bit of Wutai, just a little less touristy. It seemed a little more warm and welcoming.

As she pondered over a stall that sold many masks (some a little more silly than others), she shot Cloud a mischievous look. Of course, she dragged him along with her. Despite only just arriving, she believed they both needed to get off the ship and take in a little bit of this world. There was no telling how long it would be before they arrived at a place like this.

Picking up one of the masks that resembled a cat, she held it up to her face, laughing. "Do you think it suits me?"

Leave it to Aerith to be the one woman who could persuade him to do just about anything, even when he had his own concerns or doubts. The only interest he had about this ship was finding the answers to return home, but Aerith’s natural curiosity managed to drive him off course. So much for business first.

While Aerith browsed through the various booths and items being sold, Cloud kept a considerably moderate distance between himself and the Cetra. He caught himself staring more at her than the actual festival, still in disbelief that this was even happening. Usually this was met with the lowering of his head if she turned to catch him gazing, but it wasn’t long until his eyes found his form again. What do you say to a woman you couldn’t protect?

Eventually the remark on the mask caught him completely off guard. In fact, he didn’t even register that she was asking his opinion until he was able to put the two and two together. “It’s… interesting.” Said Cloud with a bit of an odd look given towards the cat mask. “Why would you wear it

Lowering the mask, she raised an eyebrow at Cloud. "A souvenir of course!" She put the mask back down, looking over at the man. "I don't have many of my personal things anymore, so it'd be nice to have a little something to call mine."

Not that a silly cat mask would be the best of things to keep - but it's the principal of the idea to her. Accepting the fact that she was even there was hard enough, along with plenty of things. Their planet was gone, a majority of their friends still in pods. She was thrilled that she had him and Nanaki there, but she also knew things had changed. They had all changed.

Turning away from the booth, she started to walk down the row of booths, timing her steps so she was walking beside him. "Thank you for coming with me," she started to say, then shook her head. "Well, I did pull you out here. I know coming along isn't on the top of your list of things to do, but I have a feeling we won't be many places like this. Might as well take advantage of it, right?"
