Time for a Talk [Closed to Command Staff]

Kirk had done some poking around on his own initiative, after Cybil informed him about the precinct. He'd found it easily enough - it just took some looking around the city. He'd been a bit staggered by all of it. It simply confirmed how huge Stacy was and how little of it they'd really explored. All the more reason to get moving quickly. Cybil had ( Read more... )

Nathan remembered coming across the precinct. Easy when you often fly over the city, and taking care to avoid the more dangerous regions. And flying fast like he does only contributes to his promptness.

He nodded to the commander, and found a spot to wait for the others.

It had been a bit since the raptor-punching incident, and already Picard could tell he was doomed to have his fifteen minutes of fame for it. At this point, anythng that got him away from the teens and young ones in the crew was time spent not having to answer questions about punching a velociraptor in the face, somethig the captain would very much liked to have moved on past. To put it bluntly, he was exceedingly grateful for the command meeting Kirk had put together.

Elfangor heard about the meeting and after some debate to almost skip it with Loren on board, he decided he really shouldn't. He did have a responsibility to the crew, after all.

So leaving when he finally had to to make the meeting on time, he ended up hurrying and arrived a bit sooner than he expected. Giving the others a nod of acknowledgment, he joined them in waiting for the others.

The Chief arrives at the appointed time. He's been spending a lot of time at the precinct and knows the building reasonably well by now, and approves of it as a meeting place. He's still instinctively wary of the city, despite Stacy's assurances that it's safe now. It's just habit.

He walks into the room and finds a place to stand and wait, making eye contact with the others and organizing his thoughts. He has a lot to report.

Training Concerns, and Security spartanjohn_117 July 16 2009, 01:55:42 UTC
The Chief, after the floor has been opened to reports, raises an issue that's been bothering him.

"It's come to my attention that we have no one in charge of overall team training," says the Chief. "I'd like to volunteer to oversee that, as it's important that the teams not only be able to function as units but also as a larger group."

"In addition, I'd like to offer my post as head of Security to Leon Kennedy in order to have more time to devote to one job instead of dividing myself between two. He's been very capable so far and I would not hesitate to trust him with it." The Chief'd be glad to see the job go to an actual cop, someone who knows a bit more about dealing with things like this than he does. "I can keep up work in the security team but I think that Leon is better suited to it."

That caught Leon off guard.

"I... uh... wasn't expecting that...

"But, so long as no one has any objections, I'd be honored."

"I've no objection," Kirk speaks up, "He seems a capable sort and I fully support the Chief's proposal."

The Sam Winchester Mess governmentninja July 16 2009, 08:40:46 UTC
"There's a number of security concerns that need to be addressed, but the one I'd like to address is the growing mess centering around Sam Winchester. It seems like the more I dig into it, the more problems are uncovered." That was probably the understatement of the century. But he needed to bring up the situation with Sam before mentioning the guns, if only to help paint the current landscape of the ship.

"Here are the facts of the situation:

"Some time ago, Sam met with other members of the crew who, like himself, had been infected by a Yeerk. Together, they were going to decide the fate of the Yeerk we're holding in stasis. Sam sees no other viable solution besides killing the thing, so when the other members group decided there should be a hearing to decide its fate, Sam made plans to murder the Yeerk if a death sentence wasn't handed down at the end of the hearing ( ... )

Kirk took all of it in and leaned forward, one hand clenched into a fist. This was a difficult situation. Incredibly touchy. He hadn't been here for the Yeerks, but he had heard about it. He'd learned all he could. And while he agreed that their actions wee despicable, utterly without moral value... he would be damned, if he condemned an individual to death for the crimes of his or her fellows. He would find out the truth, he would find out what it had done and then a decision could be made ( ... )

"I'll not condemn the man for what he wished to accomplish," the captain pointed out first, "but his actions against any crew members should be punished. For now, keep him in the brig. Jim, I respect your opinion on the sanctity of life, and normally I would agree with you wholeheartedly, but we're talking about a creature that bases its entire existence on taking over the mind and body of another living creature. In this case, on this ship, all those creatures are other sentient beings."

Picard frowned, other thoughts starting to percolate in his head. "Mister Dox should be spoken to. Allow me to do it. I think I've had enough experience with him -- with both Brainiac 5s -- to make headway with him.

"Also ... have Mister Spicer report to me as well. I have already dealt with Mister Dox and Mister Five about violating someone's privacy for the sake of doing so, and I'll speak with our other troublemaker in the same way."

< If I might make the offer, I can speak with Mister Winchester to at least convince him to eat and let proper procedure take it's course with the Yeerk. > Elfangor offered. < There have been quite a few instances where an Andalite aristh have become quite unforgiving of a Yeerk prisoner. However, since it's wrong to kill any sentient being that is willing to surrender, I have some practice in making them see losing their honor because of whatever anger and hatred they feel is nothing short of savage. No matter the species, if they are willing to surrender and release their own 'prisoners' or 'hosts,' then it is our proper duty to at least offer them a fair chance at life. >

There might have been a disguised hinting that even if the Yeerks are a rather hateful race that take over others, it still surrendered and the honorable thing is not just killing it. As little love as he held for the Yeerks, he made it a point to keep his honor and he'd rather not be under the command of someone who might put that in jeopardy.
