Get well soon [open]

Zouichi hadn't been wounded that badly -- all things considered, he'd gotten off pretty light after two encounters with an entity like KAIN. But it wouldn't hurt to pay the Medical Wing a visit; he could see if whether Anwei had made it down here safely ( Read more... )

"Are you alright?"

Her voice cuts in from off to the side, there's blood on this person's face and it stops her in her tracks.

There's something about him that's vaguely familiar, and in a flash she remembers him from the podpop months ago, and her brow furrows.

"Zouichi?" That was his name, if she remembered correctly. It had been some time. "What happened?"

"Roxanne." Zouichi blinks; he hasn't seen her since they were wandering around covered in alien goop, but he hasn't forgotten her face.

"Oh, there was a bit of an incident earlier: someone named KAIN who was after Sasami." He paused for a moment, then added, "She's fine, though -- nothing to worry about."

Not something easily forgotten.

"A bit of an incident." Her eyes flicked to the red. She doesn't know Sasami. "You have blood on you. Is it yours?"

He looks a little puzzled for an instant, then lifts his hand up to his forehead, daubing at the blood there. "Ah, that's right. It is mine; it completely slipped my mind. You wouldn't happen to have a handkerchief handy, would you?"

"Yes, I believe he was being stored somewhere on the ship -- most likely, the containment systems being used to restrict his movement broke down. It was quite a fight, actually."

That was the understatement of the year.

"What are you doing here?"

Well, Howard didn't expect that the next time he'd see Zouichi, Zou would be covered in blood. Even though he knew Zouichi isn't beyond injury, it's always a bit of a shock to see someone powerful injured. He raises his eyebrows and rushes over, bringing his first aid kit with him. His training hasn't taken him far beyond most of the basics, but Zouichi is still standing, so he probably isn't hurt too badly, if he is at all.

"Hey, Zou, tell me that's not all your blood. Are you and where are you hurt?"

"It is all my blood," Zouichi said, pleasantly enough. "But I should be fine; I heal fairly quickly. If you have something to clean it off, though, I'd appreciate it."

The damage KAIN inflicted on him was mostly internal or hidden under his clothes, but Zouichi's control systems are back online, and that's what's important.

"Enjoying your time in the Medical Bay?"

"You're covered in blood and you're asking me if I've had a nice day?" he says, blinking a bit. "Okay, sit down so I can reach your face. It's just your face, right? Should probably disinfect it anyway, just in case. How fast is 'fairly quickly'?"

"And it's been fine so far. No zombie plagues yet. That's a plus."

"Head wounds tend to bleed out of proportion to the damage inflicted," said Zouichi, but he sits down anyway.

"I should be fine tomorrow. He also managed to graze my side --" he motions to a shallow cut across his ribs on the right side, where the plantsuit has been torn, "But it was only a glancing blow."

He resisted the urge to say that he'd be able to recover just fine on his own; after all, this is Howard's job.

"You seem to be learning quickly."

"Hello!" a deceptively cheerful voice called. Alastirra sat in her medbay bed, her arm in a sling. She didn't look terribly battered besides that, a large, green crystalline totem humming quietly next to her.

"I don't think we ever officially met," the Draenei chuckled.

A familiar face; Zouichi recognized the woman who had joined him in the fight against KAIN. There was a seat beside her bed; perhaps someone else had been visiting her. He took it, giving her a brief bow while doing so.

"No, I don't believe we have. But the meeting was unforgettable, nonetheless. I'm Zouichi. And that was quite a fight you put up."

"Oh, thank you for the compliment!" she said, cheeks flushing blue-violet. "A pleasure to meet you, Zouichi. I am Alastirra."

"And I cannot say that I was the only one putting up quite the fight! You are not quite like most humans I have met." By which she meant most humans actually had to wear some serious armor before putting up nearly the fight he had.

"It's probably because I'm only a Synthetic Human," he said, smiling. It was hard not to in the face of Alastirra's exuberance.

"I've never seen anyone with magic like yours before." Zouichi glanced at the totem by her bedside. "And I believe I never thanked you for your support during the battle -- I felt stronger than I have since I first woke up here."

Anwei returned to Med Bay with a multi-species spinal brace over her shoulder and a confused look on her face. She was even more confused inside.

She'd seen a little bit of the fight while speeding down the transit tube; people swirling through the air like feathers, around a great black-and-white monster. But when the fight was over and she went to look for wounded to pull out, there was no recovery grid, no triage teams, nothing. Apparently these incredible people had fought and beaten that thing and then just walked down to Med Bay under their own power. Either that or she'd missed someone, trapped and dying under rubble. She'd asked Stacy and she had said not, but...

There was a familiar figure in Med Bay, bandaged but still upright. She handed the elaborately forked and splined brace over to the nearest tentacle and waved to him in almost a salute.

"Zouichi! How badly were you hurt?"

He raised an arm in a return greeting. "Not badly. I had Howard apply some bandages, but they're mostly for show. I should be fine."

No mention of that period of complete helplessness against a ridiculously powerful opponent, of course. "How are things here? Have many people been coming in?"

"I'm glad to hear that." Anwei's eyes did their unsettling independent flickering over him, but he didn't seem to be in distress. She would have to trust his own self-evaluation - at least unless she let him peek at his medical data. Which seemed to be pushing the limits of their acquaintance.

"People are coming in under their own power. Barring any official announcement of when the fight was over or indeed when it actually started," one eye darted up at the ceiling, to glare in the direction of the Command Deck, "I waited until all the combatants seemed to be here, and then went up to sweep the area. I didn't find any bodies." And no sign of lopench'n or other unpleasant battlefield predators, which was a relief right there.

Zouichi wondered if that calm was typical of more experienced Medical personnel, or merely an extension of Anwei's unusual background. He trusted Anwei more than Howard, but enough to entrust his medical file to her? He still didn't know the specifics of her supposedly sordid past.

He nodded. If people were coming in by themselves, it was less likely they were seriously injured. "Your first experience with a herd of incoming patients? Things seem so calm here; Medical must be very effective in triage and treatment."

"By the way, Howard told me about the nature of the Punishment crew members receive when they reach fifteen violations."
