Get well soon [open]

Zouichi hadn't been wounded that badly -- all things considered, he'd gotten off pretty light after two encounters with an entity like KAIN. But it wouldn't hurt to pay the Medical Wing a visit; he could see if whether Anwei had made it down here safely ( Read more... )

"Hello!" a deceptively cheerful voice called. Alastirra sat in her medbay bed, her arm in a sling. She didn't look terribly battered besides that, a large, green crystalline totem humming quietly next to her.

"I don't think we ever officially met," the Draenei chuckled.

A familiar face; Zouichi recognized the woman who had joined him in the fight against KAIN. There was a seat beside her bed; perhaps someone else had been visiting her. He took it, giving her a brief bow while doing so.

"No, I don't believe we have. But the meeting was unforgettable, nonetheless. I'm Zouichi. And that was quite a fight you put up."

"Oh, thank you for the compliment!" she said, cheeks flushing blue-violet. "A pleasure to meet you, Zouichi. I am Alastirra."

"And I cannot say that I was the only one putting up quite the fight! You are not quite like most humans I have met." By which she meant most humans actually had to wear some serious armor before putting up nearly the fight he had.

"It's probably because I'm only a Synthetic Human," he said, smiling. It was hard not to in the face of Alastirra's exuberance.

"I've never seen anyone with magic like yours before." Zouichi glanced at the totem by her bedside. "And I believe I never thanked you for your support during the battle -- I felt stronger than I have since I first woke up here."

"Synthetic?" She thought about that for a moment. "So you were not precisely born?"

Alastirra shrugged, then. "My magic is what it is. Though if you come from a world without, that is no surprise. I am not the only shaman good at a variety of things." She chuckled.

"My totems, as you see here, do much. This one is for healing. I figure that would be best in a place like this, yes?" Even if its glow didn't do much for actual sleep, at times.

"No; I was created. It's.. a bit of a long story."

"Actually, before I was released here, I'd never seen any magic. But it seems drastically different from Aibghalien's. More structured." And less prone to explosions.

"Totems? So you can summon these wherever you wish?" He looked at the totem with renewed respect. "A very useful skill in a Medical Bay, I'd agree. Are those wolves you called to your side also totems?"

"Well, if you ever care to tell, I do have time," Alastirra chuckled. "Oh! You know Aibghalien? He is very nice. I have not seen him for a while, but he also was very interested in my magic."

"My teacher--one of them, anyway--learned this magic directly from the elements themselves. It takes a good deal of concentration to learn to hear them speak." Which might prove that Alastirra isn't quite as flighty as she sometimes seems.

"I can summon totems where I like, yes. I could summon others but they would have no real use here. Akil and Kurii are not totems, they are friends. They used to be alive, once. Not in my lifetime. But they befriended me and deign to come when I ask for their help."

He smiled. "Well, when you get out of this infirmary, feel free to track me down, and I'll tell you all about it. I can't promise it will be a very uplifting story, though."

"And yes; I met Aibghalien some time after I was first released from the pods. He always seems to be working on a project or two -- or three. I haven't run into him lately, though."

Zouichi tried to wrap his head around her explanation of her magic. "Learning from the elements? As in, talking to a fire or a river? You'll have to forgive me; my world contains neither magic nor spirits."

"I could probably trade you sad tales, but that will be for then. And maybe over a drink of some sort," Alastirra said.

"He is probably busy. He seems the sort. Experimenting--like many a gnome I knew, back on Azeroth. That is all right--probably keeps him out of trouble. Like me and my garden!" she said with a laugh.

"And yes. Precisely like. Everything that is, is alive. One simply has to take the time to look and see it...and many do not."

"Then it's a promise," he said. "I haven't had a chance to visit the local tavern, anyway."

So Alastirra's world was called Azeroth. And apparently, it was home to more than one intelligent species. "A gnome? Are we talking about the short humanoids? And you have a garden there?"

Zouichi blinked at her description of the elements, surprised. "Actually, I believe that outlook may not be unique to your world. The indigent religion where I came from included the belief that everything has a spirit -- people, animals, plants, stones. Though I've never tried speaking with them myself."
