[open!] warning: insensitive bastard. come annoy him

The best way to describe Kai's state of mind right now was stir-crazy. Even on a ship as mind-bendingly huge as Stacy was, Kai knew there was only so much space. He knew there was only so far he could go in one direction. He knew there was no going back, and there was no one he knew in this place ( Read more... )

It just so happened that a certain figure was walking in the opposite direction down the corridor, clad head to toe in a black body suit his face concealed entirely by the red eyed mask. He looked very much like one trained for combat, indeed, on one hip lay one rather large pistol and within easy reach a combat knife strapped just behind his back.

The assassin noted other coming his way, watching him through the visor of his mask with a calculating calmness. Running the inbuilt auspex scanner built into his spy mask over the other, interesting. Taking note of the metal detected by his scanner he continued on, closer and closer, if the other challenged him so be it.

Where he was going or what he was doing in those corridors one could only guess.

The body suit caught Kai's eye. As they were about to pass each other, Kai turned his head, looking at the weapons and the strange mask and the gear and the build. This guy was built like a fighter.

Promising.

"What's with the mask?" His tone was terse, far from friendly.

"A symbol to some, it is a tool," he replied with an icy tone as he stopped in his tracks, gaze down the corridor.

"And what of your augmentations?" he added with the slightest turn of his head to glance sidelong, ready to move if the other proved trouble, it had been some time since he had put his skills to proper use.

Green eyes widened in surprise.

"So you can tell," Kai said. Even with the gloves to hide his torn skin and the glasses to cover the coloboma, this person knew he'd been modified. The idea that he didn't have to hide the mods was taking a hell of a lot of getting used to. "You asking why I've got them, or what they do?" Because if it was the latter...he wouldn't mind demonstrating.

Truthfully, save for the armor Maydril wore, she didn't look like much.

A slip of a pointy-eared girl in armor that just fit her. The sword on her back seemed like it was too big for her, though she carried it like she knew how to use it.

Though her tactics, however, were probably all wrong. Her blue eyes widened and she tilted her head.

"Are you all right?" she asked. "You...do not look happy." Perhaps only stating the obvious, but...

He gave her a flat stare, like he didn't believe his ears. "Sure. I'm just fine. Absolutely goddamn fantastic. I like being in a great big slimy ship, wearing a plant, and having no fucking clue who's alive and who went down with the planet." His voice had risen in intensity with each word, but the energy dropped from it again as he let out a breath. "'S not like it's your business, anyway," Kai continued, fairly calm again.

"Well, then we are both on the same boat, literally, and figuratively." It was not quite a snap, but the Cultured Fine Lady tones both of her parents instilled in her are in full effect. Which is a tell as to just how riled being snarled at got her.

"And business of mine it may not be, but I am not the type to callously ignore someone in pain. Even if they perhaps wish I would." Unspoken, a "so there." At least she didn't stick her tongue out. Maydril shook her head, then.

"I have had to find my own friends here, and it is not always easy. So I try to extend a friendly hand to others who are new, and seem alone. If I overstepped, I am sorry." Simply ending with the truth seemed best.

Someone in pain? Who did she think she was? Kai didn't buy that. Anyone who couldn't ignore someone in pain was either lying or wouldn't last long before burning out. There were too many people with too many problems. "Give me a break. Trust me, you don't want to be friends with a guy like me." It wasn't self-depreciating, it was the truth. He wasn't a friendly kind of guy.

(Though he'd had friends. He was even okay with thinking of them as friends. Funny how it hadn't really sunk in how important they were to him until now, when they were either dead or podded.)

"It'd be smarter for you to grow some callouses. Save you trouble."

A skinny, five-foot-four girl of mixed, vaguely Asian descent... probably not all that strong looking, no matter how grumpy she is.

Cagalli just happened to be sitting on a bench along his path of stomping around being angry, catching up on more of the ship's rules, specifically those regarding a certain live-fire exercise. Between that, and being possessed, and... that damned woman...

"Place is just full of happy people..." she muttered entirely too loudly as Kai wandered by, before hunching down a little upon realizing just how audible she was.

"You're no ray of sunshine yourself," he said, turning to glare at her over his shoulder. "Can't say I blame you, though."

Well, she's caught. "Yeah, yeah. Not exactly the easiest adjustment I've made." She huffed, crossed her arms as she looked off to the side.

"How long you been here?" Not that he particularly cared about her well-being, but if she was fairly new, too, maybe it'd make him feel better to kvetch about the whole situation with someone else. He turned around to face her fully, resting gloved hands on his hips in a nonchalant posture.

Here's a likely target - a man in his late twenties, maybe his thirties, and wearing the standard plant-suit. He has a blaster on one hip, but otherwise, looks like a civilian. He walks like a pilot, though, that same bounce in his step and a touch of arrogance in his physical presence. He glances up as he catches sight of Kai, brow furrowing.

"You alright? You look like you've had one juma juice too many."

"Why the hell is everyone and their brother on this ship asking me if I'm okay?" he snaps irritably. Kai has no idea what a juma juice was, and honestly doesn't care enough to find out. "Do people usually walk around the ship grinning or something?"
