Bendytimed to whenever a book could reasonably leave the City. (Under its own power. Sort of.)i_am_the_bafoOctober 8 2010, 17:37:42 UTC
With the threat abated, to Zetta's infinite boredom (seriously, no one had even attacked his fortress! What was the point of having a fortress if no one attacked it?!), the Overlord had taken up his old bad habit of walking in on people in the sensoriums to see what they were doing. Someday, someone might tell him to stop. He probably wouldn't care when they did; he certainly had no qualms at the moment.
So in strolled the Overlord (or rather, in came the tome, carried by his leader-minion), completely unaware that he was the second-worst person on the entire ship to be wandering in on Katara at the moment. "Huh," he said out loud. "Isn't this that place that belongs to that thing Starfire is a part of...?"

Katara startled at the voice, but then saw a girl with the book, so she knew it was Overlord Zetta (it was still weird for her to just call him Zetta). She was still trying to figure the best way to set up the courtyard for training: Beastboy had mentioned that there were some other people interested in joining The Outsiders, and she wanted to be ready.
"Yes," Katara said, brightening. "Stafire is one of the embers of The Outsiders, a team me and Beastboy are trying to reestablish again. Since I can't get to the City right now, I'm figuring the best way to arrange everything. Any thoughts?"
Her eyes are red, but she is giving no indication of being upset at the moment.
"It shouldn't be too much longer till you can get back in," Zetta said. "I got out, after all."
It simply didn't occur to him that no one really cared what a book and its magical constructs, all of which generally had no susceptibility to viruses, did. It barely occurred to him that not might consider his comings and goings of the utmost importance.
"It should be a castle," Zetta continued. "Not as good as my castle. But castles are the best."
It did occur to Katara that Zetta could get out easily because he was a book, but she wasn't going to be rude. "That's good to know: I've been trying to prep the hotel, just in case it ever gets attacked like with the zombies."
She laughed. "We work with what we can, Overlord Zetta. AS it turns out, a hotel is actually pretty good housing, and I can talk to multiple people from one room with the PA system there."
Phillip had decided to look around the ship and had found the sensoriums. Stepping into one of them, he noted that it was in use.
Running a hand down the wall, he was surprised to note that it was solid, real or as real as it could. "How interesting," he said before noticing the young woman across the way. "Ah, I didn't notice you there. Pardon."
Katara stopped mentally mapping the place long enough to look up and see a boy watching her and looking around. The lost look on his face clearly todl her what she needed to know, and she walked up to him.
"Don't worry about it," she said, offering him a smile. "I'm Katara, of the Southern Water Tribe. "I take it this is your first time in the Sensoriums?"
Wow, he had a lot of...tech, was it? And he was from japan too: there seemed to be quite a few people from there. She wondered if there were a lot of battles in that place.
"Yup," Katara said, making a notation in her notebook about how she should soften the ground around the courtyard. "THey keep comparing it to a holodeck, whatever that is."
"It happens," she said, makinga square with her hands to see how it would look if she trimmed the hedges around the hotel. "People burst in on each other all the time: its actually the best way to get to know one another. So who might you be?"
Katara chuckled. "Of course. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but that kind of stuff happens all the time. They can take us out of different sequences of time and even bring us on the ship with duplicates. It's weird, trust me."
She gestured to the building. "Redecorating what the headquarters are going to look like for the Outsiders. I can't go into the City just yet, so I'm trying to get an idea of how everything I input is going to work. Hopefully it works out."
The sensoriums had sounded kind of fun from what Alex had described, and as interesting as all this new human/meatship stuff was, Tavros was feeling a little homesick. It was a way to bring back familiar surroundings, and right now he felt he could use some.
He hadn't planned on barging in on a human girl building what looked like a very large communal hivestem. "Oh, uhh, sorry," he mumbled as he started to wheel back out, "I didn't know this thing was, um, taken."
Wow, but she was popular today. She was just starting on what the inside of their headquarters would look like with new carpentry (she was sure that she could get someone to help) to replace the old faded blue when she heard someone come in. She wasn't completely a hundred percent of course: she was still thinking of Matt and Aang and Will, and she was frantically wiping some tears away.
"I'm fine, just thinking about some stuff," she said, sniffing a bit. "You;re new though, aren't you? Juwst podpopped?"

Tavros pauses on his way back out. He felt bad for barging in on her, but he didn't know her well enough to be very helpful. "There's a lot of stuff to, uh, think about, I guess. And uh, yeah, I was... hatched in with the last bunch of people, or whatever term you prefer."
He looks around. It's a pretty impressive display, even if it's not real.

Katara laughed. "Thanks, but it isn't a hivestem, its a hotel. It was one of the abandoned buildings in the city that some friends of mine started a team called The Outsiders. They're gone now, but with Beastboy's help I was able to reform the team and get new members. I'm trying to help redecorate before we start training and hanging out more."
She took a good at him. "I like you're, uh, horns. What species are you?"
((Starfire's worried too and also wants to help decorate, but she'll meet up with Katara later. I didn't want to overwhelm you with threads.))
After the frustrations of everything that had happened, Billy was ready to escape and retreat. There were so many questions on the edges of his mind that he could hardly keep track of them all.
One eventually surfaced: somewhere, someway, he felt pain coming from his newest bond. Katara was hurt.
Determined to see the situation for himself, Billy followed wherever his instinct led. There she was, hard at work. First appearances masked the pain, but he knew in his heart that it was there.
Darn. Of all the people that had been meeting her, she coudl hide what she'd been thinking from all of them BUT him. It wasn't so much that she wanted to hide it from Billy, she trusted him more than most, but she'd already burdened him about her feelings with Aang. She didn't want to make him think that all she did was wallow in depression.
At the same time, she had to talk to somebody about this.
"GLADOS had taken a friend of mine away for awhile...someone who's significant other was someone I started to have feelings for without knowing it. Now I feel guilty...for thinking about him that way AND for not staying focused on Aang. I just....I thought for a moment, I could really feel that way for someone, and finally fill a little of that emptiness."
Billy felt absolutely awful. No, Katara didn't need to hurt so much. He slowly approached her, eyes sad.
"You're not the first person in the world to develop an attraction to someone whose heart is already claimed. Statistically, most people encounter it. And it's hardly your fault that your memory of his girlfriend was erased. It will be awkward around him for a while, but he's your dear friend. He'll understand."
At least, Billy certainly hoped he would. He sighed and dug his toe into the carpet. "As for Aang, I know you're deeply in love with him. It's been hard on you, knowing that he's been absent for such a long time. Just...take the time to clear your mind, all right? It's past now. When you see him again, you can cross that bridge."
Billy wants to say so much more, but it would probably be best to let her talk first.
She shook her head. "It's funny..I've always thought that a little about him, just because he's the only guy that ever came as close to being as sweet and kind as Aang. The idea of actually doing anything was out of the question: Will, his girlfriend, is great, and those two are meant for each other. I love them together. I just hate GLADOS made me forget that. If Matt and I had done anything

"A virtual environment I take it?" inquired Phillip, looking around the building. "With a name like a Sensorium and all."

Was she really this bad a person?
