Work As Usual

Apr 20, 2009 22:14

Jean Grey sat at what she considered her 'desk', looking over the notes she'd jotted down after her last session with Sam. Working as usual. Frowning, she reached up, pressing the fingers of her right hand against her temple. Her head was beginning to throb and she knew that it was because she hadn't ventured far from the med lab and honestly she'd ( Read more... )

"Sorry," Sam apologized. He stood a few feet behind Dr. Grey, propping his still rather unsteady body up by propping himself against one of the fleshy beds. "I, uh, brought you this," he said, extending to Jean the tablet of tracings that she had prescribed him as part of his physical therapy. "You said you wanted to look at them, right?"

Jean glanced over her shoulder and a smile formed on her lips. "Yes, I did," she said as she rose to her feet and reached over taking the tablet from him. She flicked through them and nodded, obviously satisfied with his progress.

"How are you feeling?" She asked, her gaze moving over his face. "You look a little tired, why don't you sit down and we can chat a little," she said and suddenly a rolly chair rolled over to where Sam was.

No rolly chair of doom here.

"I'm good," Sam said, easing himself down into the seat. "I mean, I guess I just wish this could all be over already. I'm getting a little stir-crazy not being able to leave the medbay. I just feel like I should be doing something."

"You are doing something," Jean said, pulling her chair over to Sam and sat back down. "You're getting yourself better - and that's a lot."

Kate stepped further in, and even gave a small wave for good measure.

"Hey, sorry. Was just stopping in to ask about... wait, it is you. Is it?" She had seen her at the meeting but hadn't got a chance to ask which world she was from.

Jean's eyebrows furrowed as she studied the woman before her. "Uh, last I checked I was me... Why?"

Kate stepped in further, her thoughts mixed and muddled. She was still dealing with the recent Yeerk possession and the on going strained relations with her sort of boyfriend.

She then explained, "A couple of things, X-Men will ring a bell but does the word Avengers do too?"

Jean just continued to look at the young woman in complete confusion. "Avengers?" she repeated, growing a bit more confused. "No, it doesn't.... Should it?"

Maybe somewhere in the process of coming to the ship she'd lost some memories... She didn't think that was the case, but one could never be too sure.

Samus quirked an eyebrow; her so-called stealthiness had apparently failed. She wasn't embarrassed at being caught though (since when did this hunter really value etiquette), but honestly, she didn't expect the woman to notice her while she was poking around the ship.

"Hmn, fine. Samus Aran, who are you?"

Wow - politeness on this ship seemed to be almost non existant.

"I'm Jean Grey... I'm one of the doctors here now... Did you need something?"

"No," she almost left it at that. She almost did. It's not that she was purposefully trying to be rude, it was that Samus was so used to being completely isolated from all others she forgot what it was like to deal with non-Galactic Federation Officials. Even being on this ship had only slightly improved her social skills.

"I was just exploring the ship. I haven't ever been down here and thought I should take a look around."

Jean flashed an amused smile at Samus, deciding that with the current situation everyone was in.. That well a bit of rudeness could be forgiven. "Well did you happen to find anything of interest?"

Dean rolls his eyes. Damn psychics.

But Jean looks like she's been working way too long, and while Dean appreciates what she's doing for Sam, definitely, he doesn't want her to get sick over it.

"Yeah, and it's really not a good idea to forget to eat." Dean says casually, leaning over her shoulder with his arms folded across his chest.

Dean - not nice to think not so nice things about psychics. Naughty you!

"And have you tried to eat the stuff the ship tries to pass off as food?" Jean demanded with a trace of amusement. Someone worrying about the doctor. Cute.

Oh, he doesn't mean it. Much.

"Yep, and it's disgusting. Which is why I eat in the sensoriums." He replies, with a cheeky grin. "You should try it. That way you don't keel over at your desk."

She turned and faced Dean, her eyebrows perking up a bit. "And let me guess... You know of the perfect place?"

"Even if it's your so-called 'superior officer?" McCoy said, more playfully than anything else. The only time he was going to be a complete hardass around his peers is in the line.

"I figured everyone's fought through the culture shock enough that we should be able to get to know the folks we're going to be working with on a daily basis. My name's Len."

"Uh, I wasn't aware I'd suddenly enlisted...." Jean said as she turned in her chair to get a better look at McCoy.

She did offer him a smile though, she's a nice person. "I think you're right though. I'm Jean," she said, rising to her feet as she introduced herself. "So what do you think of the ship so far?"

She could have just read his mind, but Jean wasn't normally into scanning people's thought too much without their permission.

"I feel a bit like Jonah, and the ship being the inside of a whale." Bones said. "And it's been put forth as a given that everyone needs to have a reason for being. Mine's healing people. What's yours?"

It took Jean a few moments to come up with an answer that she felt made sense. It wasn't exactly easy trying to sum up how one saw their purpose in life.

"Well before I came here, I would have said to prove that different people aren't to be feared, that humans and mutants can live together... And ultimately give other mutants the same help I was given growing up." She paused, shrugging her shoulders. "Now though... I'd have to say it's just to find a way back home."
