There are ghosts on the ship, apparitions of those long dead and those still alive. They aren't real and yet, may as well be for how they can hurt the crew and affect the physical environs of the ship. Katara's senses had gotten much more developed thanks to her training, but even she isn't expecting to feel the presence of a ghost. One minute she was talking with Carol animatedly about the costume she'd picked and the colors on Obs deck, and suddenly she shrieked.

"Ow!"

Her hand immediately went to her arm: she felt drawn blood. What WAS that? There wasn't anything for her to get scratched by, not that she could see. She fidgeted with her suit and felt the long stripe.

"What WAS that? Did you see anything Carol?"

Carol hadn't seen anything, and that scared her. She looked around, her plantsuit disappearing and being replaced by her own Ms. Marvel costume. She reached out her arms for Katara and pulled the girl towards her.

"I don't know, but I don't think it left either. So stay close." If she couldn't see it, she couldn't hit it. And that made her feel even more terrified. How was she going to be able to protect her daughter?

Ah, but what if it can't be touched either? What if it can only scratch and gouge and can't be touched itself? What if it's invisible and intangible when it wants to be?

What if it starts to scratch Katara all over?

What then?

Carol had pulled her outside, and she thought that this would have had an affect, at least. She was about to thank Carol when she felt the scratching persist again, and this time all over.

Katara shrieked, trying to ready her hands, her face contorted in fear.

"Get off, GET OFF!"
