Life seemed to enjoy doing this to Tony Stark. Get him settled, if not content then at least accustomed, and then turn everything on its head.
It hadn't taken long to find the Iron Man armour- but once he had it in his hands, it was hard to remember why he'd gone looking for it.

No, this time Tony was quite content to sit on the sidelines and let ( Read more... )

Ghani was silent as she made her way through the city, with her hands clasped loosely in front of her. Her footsteps were silent, and truly the only noise being made by the young woman would have been the the soft shifting of her dress over her legs as she strode forward.

She was on her way to visit the sand-worms. Visit the one who had the small seed of her brother's consciousness within it. It was still hard to accept, but for the time being, it was all she had of her brother.

Turning down one of the streets, Ghani's eyebrows quirked seeing a man lugging around a rather large suitcase. Her course would take her past him, so she kept walking forward toward him.

"Are you moving into the City?" she called out once he was closer to him.

It took Tony a moment to realise he was being spoken to- a symptom of just how distracted he was to anyone who knew him, but to a stranger he'd simply come across as a little absent-minded.
"Looks that way," he agreed with a simple smile, and really, thinking about it, why not? Any one of these buildings would probably do as a workshop and somewhere to sleep. There was something justa little too cave-like about the quarters he'd been using so far.
"Do I need to talk to someone about that?"

"I do not believe so," Ghani replied with a shake of her head. "I did not when I moved into one of the building in the Vatican City." She paused, as the smooth skin of her forehead creased in thought. "I believe it is 'first come, first serve'?"

She had always found early human sayings to be odd, yet fascinating. To be actually able to use one of them in a conversation was almost amusing.

He shouldn't be surprised that the Vatican was here. It made sense- the archives alone would be worth preserving, not to mention the architecture. Whatever. If the purpose of the Transmigration9 was to preserve as much culture as possible, it would be pretty arrogant to assume that only the fleshy things that lived it that would be taken.
Idly he wondered if somewhere here he'd find the Avengers mansion. Then, of course, was the added uncertainty of time- when would it had beeen taken from, if it had been deemed worthy of preservation? Before or after its partial destruction?

Stark Tower- now the Avengers tower- seemed less likely to have survived. A structure 93 stories tall would be relatively easy to spot.

"Then I guess I'm in luck," he replied, looking the stranger over properly for the first time. "It looks like there's plenty of space."

The City was too small for his tastes. When Apollo's feeling restless, he likes to go out into space, or land on Earth and find some trouble to fix there. Here, it's not an option. And Stacy says she doesn't want to let him outside. He doesn't consider it a problem, he's been in the Bleed countless times before, but he's not about to punch a hole in his host just because he's restless.

He floats in the artificial skies, feeling the artificial sun at his back, and watches the few crewmembers in the empty monuments pick their way through. Maybe just talking to one of them about things wouldn't be a bad idea?

With a mental shrug, he lowers himself, picking at random... Tony Stark, it seems. He grins down at Tony as he floats towards the ground, halo shining around his head. "Hey. You look like you could use someone to talk to."

A guy with a halo. Well, why not? He'd seen a goddamn dinosaur earlier. Tony offered the newcomer a somewhat bemused smile, looking him over for clues. Some kind of costumed hero, perhaps, though he didn't match anything on the registered metahuman database Tony kept in his head. He wasn't someone he'd heard about, either.

"Don't tell me, I'll get it. Angel-man?"

Apollo laughs. He lands smoothly and shakes his head. "I'm afraid that the only one allowed to call me that is my husband." It's certainly strange being in a place where no one's heard of him, but it's not that bad once he considers things.

He holds up two fingers and wiggles them. "I'll give you two more tries, how's that?"

Tony grinned. Husband, huh? Well, Tony'd always been one for what he liked to call 'equal opportunities'- in and out of the workplace.

"And then what?" He laughed, tilting his head slightly to the side. "This had better not be some kind of game where I end up having to do some kind of twisted forfeit when I inevitably lose, you know. Not Angel-Man. Gabriel?"

Ben noticed Tony pulling the large suitcase with him. While part of him wondered just how different one could be due to media, he decided that setting aside any misconceptions would be better.

Jogging up, he waved at Tony. "Need help sir?"

Help?
Well, no, not really. He couldn't think of anything he really needed help with, beyond getting his head back in the game and working out where he stood. He took a quick look around to check the kid was talking to him before offering him a smile.

"Tony, please," he corrected amicably- even as Director being called 'sir' had always felt a little strange. That wasn't to say he didn't appreciate the gesture, though. "Tony Stark. I don't suppose you live in this city?"

"Yeah I do actually, at the Hilton, or rather the Outsiders' base," replied Ben. "And Tony. I'm Ben Tennyson, but you can call me Ben."

"Are you looking for something in particular Tony?" inquired Ben. "A place to set up shop or something similar?"

Outsider's base, huh. He watched Ben carefully for a moment, processing that particular piece of information. Outsiders implied the existence of some kind of rift between the more acceptable face of the crew and those who thought differently, though he could be reading far more into it than necessary.

"Not sure," he admitted. "It worked before. Just somewhere to hole up, I guess. Somewhere big and preferably empty, which- well. Looks like I have plenty of options."

"You know, most of the time a penny wouldn't buy you many of my thoughts," Tony chuckled, relaxing as he shot her an easy smile. "Not sure they're worth even that right now though. Mainly I'm wondering how you found me. Been looking for long, or was I just in the right place at the right time?"

Well, there was a minefield if there ever was one. If they found the Mansion ruined, what would he tell her?

"It's possible," he agreed with a light shrug of his shoulders. "I'm going to try mapping the place out once I've settled in. I think I'm going to set up shop in one of these- just somewhere to sleep and play around with whatever ideas come to my head. I'm... tired."

Which was about as close as he'd ever get to admitting just how world-weary his stint as Director had left him. No point, and he'd have to explain far too much anyway.

Indy was usually either in the library or the city. He considered these the most normal parts of the ship. He... really had nothing better to do. His hands were shoved in the pockets of his leather jacket found down in weapons and possessions and immediately donned over his plantsuit.

He spotted Tony and offered a nod. Indy wasn't so concerned with being polite, but it just seemed natural to acknowledge the other man. After a moment, the hatted archaeologist added a somewhat lukewarm, "Hello."

Holy crap, it was Indiana Jones. Whip and everything. Tony still remembered watching those nazis' faces melting- those had been amazing special effects for the time. But if Indy was here?
Well, the multiverse was a strange and wonderful thing.
Raptors, Tony. Raptors.

"Hey," Tony greeted him, hiding his curiosity pretty damn well. "Looking for something?"

prof_indiana February 7 2010, 05:00:07 UTC
Indy can't quite all the credit for the awesome of facemelting. All he did was have the common sense to close his eyes.

There's a half shrug from Indy. He's looking for a lot of things, a real book, some temple to explore, something from home, anything to keep him interested for awhile, so he answered, "Nothing in particular. You?"

If Tony looks a little disappointed, it's not for lack of trying to hide it. Of course Indy's not eternally on some kind of epic quest, and really- once you've found the Ark of the Covenant AND the Holy Grail? Anything after that's bound to be a little underwhelming.

"Me? Found it," he replied, hefting the suitcase in explanation. "Just looking around, now. Househunting, I guess."
