Burning the Midnight Oil [open]

After everything that had happened in the past couple of days, anyone else would be asleep. Peter, however, was acquainting himself with the medbay more, thinking like a paramedic. If there were an emergency, he wanted to be prepared and on-hand to help ( Read more... )

Static came in, stifling a yawn. His sleep cycle was...horrible, to say the least. Well, having a real bed again helped, but there always seemed to be more work to do than hours in a day.

"Hey man. You guys got a magnifying glass, tweasers, and a penlight I could borrow?" That's when it hit him he hadn't met this guy yet. "Oh, i'm Static, by the way."

Peter looked up and smiled.

"Hey. Peter." He offered a hand. "We should have the tweezers and pen-light..."

Static shook his hand happily. It was rare (and nice) to find someone else who was active at this time of day. "Thanks, but the glass is what I really need. Stopped by engineering for one already, and all the ones they had were bolted to the desks..."

"Seems to be the same, here." Peter said as he took back his hand, only to have several metal things konk him in the head and attach themselves to him.

"What the...?!" Was all he got out before being deluged with bedpans.

He REALLY needs to start asking people if they have powers before he touches them. There weren't such concentrated numbers of metas where he was from for this to be an issue.

Doc is up because... well just because he is. After being up for nearly 35 hours solid with all the chaos after the fight he'd looked Jean over and then collapsed innto sleep for about 18 hours solid. He's wokenn up at an odd hour and was now consistenty dropping off to sleep in the middle of the day only to wake up for most of the night.

He'd get around to fixing his schedule eventually but for now... medbay could use a few more people who were actually alert on the nightshift.

"Hey there." he greeted, waving to the bay's other occupant as he stepped in and surveyed the beds where many patients were still laid up recovering. "How's everything tonight?"

Peter was startled. Even a tired ninja is quiet. He turned around to see the masked man.

"Everyone's stable, and thankfully quiet." He said in response, trying to gauge who this man was exactly. "I'm... Peter. Peter Petrelli. I think I saw you helping people during the..." This would never stop sounding odd. "... Zombie fallout..." He offered a now latex-gloved hand, having learned from his encounter with Static moments earlier.

Doc doesn't bat an eye at the glove, used to different practitioners having different weird idiosyncrasies about their work. He shakes Peter's hand warmly.

"Dr. McNinja but just call me Doc if you like. Yeah I was part of the crew a while before this whole zombie thing hit but there's this one ship AI that likes to snatch people up and make them run mazes for the promise of cake sometimes and Nanoha and I were stuck with her until midway through everything going down."

He shrugged, going to stuff his hands into his pockets and then making a frustrated face when he remembered he still didn't have his lab coat back. He'd left it with Jean when she'd fallen asleep in it the first 'night' after the raid and he'd failed to run into her to ask for it back since.

He probably looked kind of dumb wandering around in plantsuit, mask, tie and stethoscope.

"Uh, I usually have a lab coat but I loaned it to somebody."

Peter kind of laughed.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Doc. Don't worry about the lab coat, you're still more professional looking than some doctors I've worked with. Though the mask is a new one on me." He smiled. Even as weird as the situation was, as depressing, there were enough good points so far on this ship to make it seem not-so-bad, the people he had been meeting being a few of them.

"So, my brother Nathan said I had to talk to people about being officially cleared to work here... And mentioned Captain Picard.." This last part was said with a bit of a confused note. "Do you know who I'd talk to, Doctor?"

Tony Tony Chopper had slept all he could after most things started to calm down in the Medbay after that announcement by the ship-lady. He couldn't sleep anymore. So he made his way to the Medbay to see what he could do. There were so many things in this high tech Medbay (so sophisticated it could put Franky's inventions to shame) that blew his mind.

Peter turned at one point from his patient monitoring and noticed Chopper. The antlers sticking out was what caught his attention.

"Hey there... Dr. Chopper, right?" Peter said warmly. "Came to check up?"

He was spotted!! But Peter was nice (and called him 'Dr Chopper too!), so he wasn't as scared anymore. He slowly came out from where he was 'watching'.

"Yup, but everyone seems to be taken care of. I wanna learn more about the Medbay. I haven't seen a lot of these instruments before!"

Peter looked at the reindeer a little incredulously, but then realized several things at once. One, it was no more odd than the fact that this was a talking reindeer doctor. Two, even Peter himself hadn't seen some of these instruments.

"Yeah, some of these are pretty alien even to me. But if you want, I could describe some of the ones I recognize to you." Peter smiled. You couldn't help but like the little guy.

Flipping through a medical file, Jean walked into the medbay looking rested for the most part. She had actually gotten more than five hours of sleep and that was good. After the battle she'd needed as much sleep as she could get to rest her mind. Thankfully, she'd gotten it and her pesky headache wasn't as bad.

Pausing, she glanced up suddenly catching a presence she hadn't noticed before. Her gaze shifted around slowly until it feel on the man who was busy checking over the patients.

She didn't recognize him, but she knew there had been a pod pop during the battle for the bridge. "Hello?" she called out softly to him as she made her way over to where he was working.

Peter looked up to see the redhead. He was slightly taken aback. His thoughts were as open to her as everyone else's. Though they were a bit more surprising compared to other males on the ship.

Stunning. That was it, and then immediately back to medicine and compulsory introduction, which he proceeded to do. He approached her and offered his hand.

"Peter Petrelli. Licensed nurse and EMT." His hands were gloved, and a quick image of the instance with Static burst through his head.

"And you are...?"

Jean is not going to complain about Peter's lack of a dirty mind! It is very much refreshing, and Jean smiles at him. The mental image of his run in with Static's powers cause her smile to widen a little more.

"Ah, it's nice to meet you Mr. Petrelli. I'm Doctor Jean Grey," she reaches out and carefully shakes his hand. "I'm in charge of the medbay and as such I must say it's always nice to get more medical staff."

It was then that Peter realized who he was talking to.

"Oh, good to meet you, Dr. Grey. I had actually meant to talk to you about that." Peter stopped, images of his older brother's mockery from when he had graduated from nursing school flashing unbidden through his mind.

"Nathan hasn't said anything about me, has he?" Because that would be both embarrassing and evervating.

Chris had noticed the newcomer and was becoming concerned for the guy. Yea, it had been a tramatic event waking up here, he was sure, but the kid needed sleep.

"You're going to wear a rut in the floor, if you keep that up." Then again, Chris was in no condition to enforce anything, bedridden as he was.

Peter looked over at the guy. The very LARGE guy.

"Yeah, but Stacy seems like she'll heal." He moved over to Chris. "You doing okay?"

Chris chuckled as Peter approached. His leg was still recovering from a point blank magnum shot, and there were still marks from numerous gashes across his face, but the stitches at least had come out.

"I'll be fine. Trust me, I've been through worse." And indeed he had, at least, in his mind. He held out a hand for Peter a second later. "Name's Chris Redfield. Former U.S. Air Force, former Racoon City Police Department Special Tactics And Rescue Squad - or S.T.A.R.S. for short - and now, I'm an agent for the United Nation's Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. This stuff has gotten all too normal for me."

Peter chuckled a little.

"I hear you there. Peter Petrelli." Peter shook his hand. "You should still let me do a lookup on those gashes, infection can be a tricky bastard."
