My laptop had been behaving a bit oddly at work - sending and receiving packets OK, but not resolving domain names. The network settings looked right, so I thought maybe the TCP/IP stack had corrupted itself again. Work's got some funny settings though, so I figured I'd check it out when I got home and see if it was the laptop or just something ( Read more... )

I did, didn't I? Actually, it was pretty simple (and silly). I have to enter all the IP numbers I need manually, and I think I had entered the internal network server number in place of the local DNS server number. So it looked right when I looked at it, because it was a valid work IP number, just not the one that was supposed to be in that input box. Oops. At any rate, the computer worked fine at home, and when I set it up at work this morning (carefully inserting the correct numbers in the places they were supposed to be), it worked fine there too.
