My laptop had been behaving a bit oddly at work - sending and receiving packets OK, but not resolving domain names. The network settings looked right, so I thought maybe the TCP/IP stack had corrupted itself again. Work's got some funny settings though, so I figured I'd check it out when I got home and see if it was the laptop or just something weird at work.
As it happens, I came home really late today after an emergency project meeting (gotta love being over budget by somewhere between $2000 and $20000, and trying to decide whether to continue or can the project when you're one third of the way through and don't know yet how it will resolve). I was tired. And cold. Really cold - body temperature had dropped way down. Cuddling on the couch hadn't helped - I was still shaking, even after being wrapped in several blankets and W. Eventually I made my way off the couch and to my desk, planning to connect up the laptop and check its configuration before I went to bed. W looked at me as I put the 'puter down and said "You know, sex would warm you up."
I said "Yes, probably. But I have to connect this up first and see if there's Internet."
There was a pause. And then I added "Not that I am trying to replace sex with the Internet."
W said, as he loaded up a new MahJong game, "Many before you have tried..." -grin-
