Fic: The Last Of The Unplucked Gems (Part Four)

Jan 30, 2011 10:04

Alright, week four... and it is LONG 4317 total. I WAS going to end this sooner, mostly due to LJ formatting issues, but qualapec showed me how to get around that. Which I am now doing because THIS is the completed entry, exactly as I wanted it to end. Thank you everyone for reading this month. I greatly appreciate the interest you showed in this series ( Read more... )

Aw, you broke my heart a little with this one. I see that you let Hearts keep hers intact, though, and for that I thank you. What wonderfully vivid characters. I have so enjoyed this ride you have taken us on. The pleasure was truly all mine, and I am just sorry now that we are at the end. Once again, you did a bang-up job dovetailing references. I shall not soon forget this one. Thank you, and good luck to you this week, though I doubt you will need it.

Aw, thank you so much, keppie! I'm really glad you stayed with this from start to finish. Your comments have just been so supportive and really reinforce the idea that this really could be a bigger project.

Thank you. With all sincerity.

WHY. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME. I am so sad. :(

In other news, awesome integration of the prompt, as usual, and ... this is a brilliant conclusion, as much as I hate it because it makes me weep.

Out of curiosity, what actually happened with Boots? I mean, I know what happens, but ... what's wrong with him specifically? :( :( :(

Also, if you don't win this week/month, I will be very upset.

Ooh, more stories! More stories!

And ugh, ugh, ugh unfortunately I do know what skin necrosis looks like. I once made the horrifying mistake of looking up Brown Recluse spiders (a stupid idea, as I'm seriously arachnophobic) and ... yeeeeah. Not fun.

But seriously, even though I hate that Boots died, I hate it in a way that I don't hate the story. I'm just sad. This is one of the best non-published things I've read in a while. KEEP WRITING IT PLEASE. FOREVER.

Wonderful entry! Poor little Hearts, though! And poor little Boots, too, for that matter! Watching the adventures of these two has been an awesome treat. The world is unique and amazing, and the way the characters have adapted to the world is very masterfully done. I would love some more, maybe perhaps when Hearts is older and can better understand her world and what happened to Boots, but that might take away from the childlike innocence that permeates the entire piece.

Well done!

Aw, thanks for reading, Chuck! I'm very glad you enjoyed being in their world for a bit.

I'm definitely going to be exploring this world further, at first as individual adventure stories and then maybe some later on elements with Hearts. Boots, unfortunately, won't be showing up in the future set pieces. He, um... well, he died here. It really breaks my heart that he did, but what can you do when the muse has a cattle prod and says "DO THIS OR GET PRODDED!!!"

LOVE THIS. From beginning to end. I love the description of Ms. Magpie's house. I love how the picture and the way she talks about Marigold and Boots' response to it gives just a hint that his metal parts are more than just a quirk...

I love Hearts' reaction when she sees a real grin from Boots for the first time, and the entire last conversation between them. I don't know if Boots had some sense that there might not be another adventure, but it's all achingly sweet.
