I got my dress from
Sweet Addiction today! I'm not really a big fan of high-waisted dresses, but I surprisingly like this one. I think it fell at the right spot...plus the print on it is gorgeous! I decided to pair this with my current favorite jacket and a nice chiffon blouse. I also recently got the cameo pin and I found that it paired really well with this outfit. As headwear, I actually didn't have anything that I felt went with the dress. While I would of loved to have a
gothy bonnet to match the dress, sadly, I don't look well in bonnets at all. :( All I could think of was, "Damn...this outfit really needs a top hat..." So, I decided I would make one. =^.^=
TOP HAT: Since Halloween stuff is everywhere, I was lucky enough to snag a hat from Michael's at 50% off. Originally, it had a tacky, cartoony spider on the back and some silver beading around the base. I took those off, of course, but decided to leave the bow on the back. Added a length of wired crinkle ribbon around the base, reworked some of the dotted mesh, and then proceeded to decorate this with a hell of a lot of roses! Added a feather for something fancy, and other little embellishments for that "oh-so-goth-victorian" look, and presto! Very pleased with how this turned out! <3 Sure, it's a cheapo costume hat, but it doesn't look so bad with all that added prettiness! Plus, now I have a proper top hat for other coordinates.
Since I was on a hat-making schtick, I decided I'd do a mini top hat as well. I actually have quite a few mini hats, so this makes a nice addition to my collection. Aaaand, I made it myself, so bonus points for me, lol!
MINI TOP HAT: I actually had the base a few weeks ago from a
wonderful seller on Etsy but wasn't sure what I was going to do with it until now. Since I really liked the crinkly ribbon, I used that as the main embellishment. Of course, because I like the look of them on my hats, used more fabric roses for added decoration. I mean, who doesn't like roses, right!? ^^; All kidding aside, I like how this turned out nice and fancy. I also like the overall shape of the hat...the decorations seem balanced and doesn't feel like it's overdone on one side. Best of all? Alligator clips to keep it secure on the head! Hells yeah!! <3
