While there was no denying Richard Vasko was an awful man through and through, he was nothing if not a cultural relativist-until he got comfortable with it, anyways, he was highly respectful of the alien.

But oh, God.

It looks like a unicorn puked all over the city, Jesus, how hard is it to maintain those sidewalks? I can't imagine how expensive that is, do they pay taxes or do the homeowners do it, themselves? And-my Christ, look at the mall!Never had he been so glad to habitually wear his sunglasses when going out in public-he was fairly certain he might go blind without them. The mall's effect on Delilah was a clearly-visible one-her eyes practically sparkled with her grin, widening as she took everything in.

Richard wasn't completely freakish - now and then, there were people dressed in simple monotones, like sober ravens in a sea of parrots. Or, at least, more sober parrots. One woman was dressed head to toe in that popular shade of turquoise, paired with a massive silver mesh purse and boots with heels so high and narrow that she teetered as she walked. Her friend, a less dedicated slave to fashion, was wearing a furry coral-colored vest and a black crocheted lace skirt thing over her monotone of brown ( ... )
