A few things were immediately apparent about Metody's world"
One, the life was significantly different than that of the Vasko's world; there were strange things on the snowy hillsides, among the leafless trees, some bright and branched like coral, others looking like a cross between a palm tree and a feather-fronded lily. These were in motion that had nothing to do with the wind.
Two, the people decorated like Metody dressed. Metody's house turned out to be white and blue on the outside, painted like some giant piece of Delft pottery, complete with a picture of a blue-flowered windmill. The peeling paint said that it hadn't been his idea. The other houses were even more garish, many of them augmented with huge panels of tiled mosaic. The bottom ten feet of all the street light and electrical poles were painted and decorated, too, and where homeowners had removed the snow and salted, the sidewalks were patterned with colored concrete and embedded tiles. Most of the trees were decorated, too, with thousands of multi colored ribbons tied onto the branches.
Even the cars were elaborately painted, then further embellished with decorative chrome and colored lights. They, at least, had large spaces of flat color on the hood, trunk, and all the sides. It made them easier to see against the wild background of everything else.
The mall was coral colored, with huge sunshine yellow, brick red and shining silver medallions of metal lattice work. The trees were ribboned here, too, but mostly in sunset colors. Metody pulled under one of them and got out, then bounced around to open the car door for Delilah.
"Okay! So. If we get split up, just hang out in the main atrium and I'll come find you. Uh, and let me know if you really need to buy anything, because the money here looks different. Are you guys hungry? We could grab some coffee and snacks first, if you want?"
