big decisions - postponed!

So last night I was giving myself a bunch of crap for not knowing what the fuck I wanted to do with myself or my future. I kept thinking "You've got all these plans! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THEM! WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH YOUR LIFE?!?!? WHAT IS THE CAREER YOU NEED ( Read more... )

don't sweat it too hard. when i was 19, i didn't have a clue what i wanted to do. most people don't. hell, i still don't know what i want to do when i grow up. if that ever happens.

the fact that you're even thinking about it is good. you have many options. keep plugging away at school, though. that's a good idea. and just keep improving upon yourself. do different things. experience different things. keep travelling.

I dunno, the way I look at it is this:
Do what interests you.

that's it...plain and simple.

In five years, your interests will change...in ten years, jeez. But, I encourage you to seek out jobs, internships and work opportunities that will help you progress, learn sound/film/whatever equipment and look good on a resume.

Trust me on this...it worked for me.

Don't blow away these years working a dead-end job just 'cuz you're "young" and "not serious." Because when you do have it together on what it is you *do* wanna do in life, you don't wanna have to start at ground zero, say at age 28 or 35 or...

keep going to school.
keep easy, attainable (yet challenging) goals.
attain them.
rinse, repeat.

...oh and age means nothing. Don't let those old farts tell you different. Act mature/professional at work and no one knows how old you are nor cares to ask. I got my first job in radio at the age of 17.

Yeah... right now what I'm sort of kicking myself over is the internship deal. I mean, it went really terribly, but what it comes down to is I could've handled it so much better, because now I can't use it as a reference ( ... )
