I know, man...I never thought I would ever meet a girl who would even approach my level of geekitude, but lo and behold, I've found one who far surpasses it. We were in albertsons looking at the candles and I said "it would be funny if we did my age in binary", at which point she pulled out a piece of paper and figured it out, right there in albertsons. Here we have two of the reasons I love her: she's brainy enough to figure things out like that off the top of her head, and has my same absurd sense of humor but not my chronic inability to follow through with my absurd ideas. I'm pretty sure there are other girls like that out there for you; I would suggest hanging out around the advanced math and science classes.

why IS the upper peninsula part of michigan?

Well, when the boundry lines between michigan territory and ohio territory were drawn in the late 1700's, a surveying error caused the line to be drawn several miles north of what it was supposed to be. This became important at the beginning of the 19th century because Toledo, one of the fastest growing and most industrially important cities at the time, was located in the area between the original line and the actual line. This led to a dispute between Ohio and Michigan over the status of Toledo, which almost turned violent several times. In the 1830's as a requirement of statehood, Michigan had to give Toledo to Ohio, and in return congress chopped the upper peninsula off of Wisconson territory and tacked it on to Michigan. At least that's the gist of it I think.

John just got a duplex up in NW OKC that was built in the 1940s. It's got brick exterior, huge trees, hardwood floors, tall ceilings and a fireplace. I love it so much. I think because it reminds me of the house I grew up in and it highly differs from the white box of an apartment I have now.
My new apartment is on the NW side of the city and you were right about it being better up there! I like near some sorta skyscrapers and there are trees!!!

One of the best things about OKC is that most of our historic neighborhoods are still pretty much intact and not ridiculously expensive. I'm glad you finally moved up to the NW Side...no one should have to live in redneck central when there's so many other options.

$575 a month for a two bedroom apartment is so freaking cheap compared to boston! My roommates and I pay $1700 a month, no living room, no dishwasher, just the basics, plus the building is super old. But it's better than living on campus, in my opinion.

I know, my fiancee is from San Diego, and we were out there a couple weeks ago feeling very good about the housing prices here. Of course, I'm sure OKC isn't as super exciting a place as Boston, but I figure that with the money I save on housing, I can afford to travel to super exciting places when I need to.
