Watching things.

So. Sat down to watch TV tonight, and the only thing we had that I was in the mood for was Justified. Which is good, because we were actually a couple of episodes behind, but it got me thinking.

I would like a show that isn't heavily driven by a/the protagonist's angst and/or lostedness (The Mentalist, Lost Girl), does not involve people regularly ( Read more... )

I think I've recommended Middleman to you? If not, I shall do that now! It's old and sadly cancelled, but buckets of fun. Out-of-work artist signs up at a temp agency and finds herself apprenticed to a superhero :) And it may be coming back, if the creator can make it happen!

Oh, also, Veronica Mars! Speaking of shows that might return :) It sounds like the kind of show you'll have already seen, but if you haven't, I highly recommend it. There's a little violence, because it's a mystery show, but not people getting killed all the time.

If you have recommended it to me, I've forgotten it--I'll check it out. (I went and looked it up, and one of the bits of trivia I found was that the Wilhelm scream appears in every episode, so I went and looked that up--I mean, I know what it is, but I couldn't pick it out of a crowd--and all of this culminated in John coming into my office saying "okay, what's with all the Wilhelm screa-- you're watching a compilation of them, I see." He was mildly amused.)

I actually haven't seen Veronica Mars. *adds to list*

hahahaha! Yes, the Wilhelm Scream is one of the fun little in-jokes, and it is indeed in every episode :) It's a great show, and a good friend of mine wrote for them (the same one who wrote for Lizzie Bennet Diaries!) so I like it even more.

And have fun with Veronica Mars, too! It's a great show.

I would second both of these recommendations, and was actually on my way to the comments here to recommend Middleman when I saw that I'd been beaten to the punch.

Also, I'm always on the lookout for things that match these criteria, so if you find anything good let me know!

If you're in the mood to really switch your brain off, I'm 9 eps into Nashville and it's bubblegum fun...

Now I'm wondering if I am... :) Is this like Community "turn your brain off and don't ask where Pierce's father got that particular computer system" or Todd and the Book of Pure Evil "turn your brain off so you can get through the discrimiflips" Scrubs "turn your brain off so you can stop getting annoyed at the fact that everyone's go-to insult is suggesting someone is a girl"?

I've been watching Friday Night Lights on my Kindle since finishing up Season 1 of Justified. You might try some of Showtime's Horrible Shows about Horrible People like House of Lies or Shameless. Maybe you could go for something like Nashville, but I don't watch so I don't know how good it actually is. But a night-time soap like that or the new Dallas or the like might be the change of pace you're looking for...

I'll also second the Middleman, though you have to get past the silly gorilla costumes in the first episode. But later: Puppet Dracula! With a Puppet Dracula Wedding! And Veronica Mars, even if the last season slips a bit in the second half...

Seriously, puppet Dracula episode may be the best thing ever filmed!

Friday Night Lights looks interesting...

I don't think I'm looking for a change of pace so much as an increase of "action/adventure/dramedy with reasonably heroic/good characters" in my diet, and HSaHP seem like they might not meet that by definition, you know?

Oh yeah. I actually wrote a review on it which pretty much outlines Jack and my opinions of it so far. http://www.nerdsraging.com/2013/03/28/tv-review-bates-motel-episodes-1-2-first-you-dream-then-you-die-and-nice-town-you-picked-norma/

Eh. Disagree with a few of those points, but not invested enough to discuss it, particularly today. Congrats on the article.

Somewhere there's a horror show for me, I'm sure. I'm gonna go rewatch Bedlam or dig up Kolchak or something.
