Nibbles ...

Finally I've had some interest in my CV. Unfortunately I am vastly over qualified for any 'normal' office administration work and am either getting the equivalent of a cold shoulder or straight out rejections (I am going to remember this moment when it comes to query letters and submissions). Given than I earnt roughly ten grand more in my previous ( Read more... )

Good luck! I moved to a new state in Jan., leaving behind my office manager job of 18 years. It's been very frustrating being dismissed out of hand because I'm over qualified for the office jobs I'm applying for. I'm to the point of thinking I need to 'dumb down' my resume.

I'll keep good thoughts for your job hunt.

Good luck!

Is going back to telly job an option if you get desperate enough? And yeah, maybe re-jigging the CV a bit? If you're applying for something that's mainly making use of X aspect of your previous experience, focus/elaborate on that aspect and just gloss through the other bits of your job. Just an idea...

ETA: Ahahaha... uni newsletter just sent me this link, no harm checking it out: How to write a killer CV.

Good luck!

There's no telly jobs going at the moment, at least not ones I can apply for. The beeb possibly have some but they only advertise internally so I'm out of the picture on those ones.

I've already had to dumb down to make what I did understandable to the real world, and I've dumbed it down further in an effort to get some interest in me and each application I 'aim' my CV towards that post. Unfortunately I'd have to dumb down to the point of 10 years of employment history being wiped out to not be over qualified for the types of admin jobs currently available (the last time I was a basic administrator was before I went to college) and that might look a little suspicious ;)

I don't mean dumb it down, more like *target* it. Don't have to write it all off completely, but focus on certain aspects of it depending on what's required for current job. But yeah, I can see how telly jobs won't translate well to normal jobs. Any contacts at the beeb that might be willing to consider you? I mean, they know you, they know your work, you've worked with them before, that's got to count for something right?

You'd think right? Not so much. There's nothing really in my field at the moment and I'm kind of out-of-sight-out-of-mind with some of them. What's ironic is that if I was still in London I wouldn't be in this situation, there's plenty of co-ord jobs going!
