6. America's Next Top Model's Tranny Isis

Tyra Banks has proven herself to be a master at the art of self-promotion. Which is why news that Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model would host its first transgender contestant was a stroke of genius on her part. It was just provocative enough to incite ( Read more... )

but i can't help but feel that she would be damned no matter what.

People hate Tyra for a myriad of reasons. Really, for any reason. Personally, sometimes I like her and sometimes she frustrates the crud out of me but I can definitely say she always cracks me up.

Tyra also stated she wanted another transgendered model during the first cycle of ANTM but the producers wouldn't hear it because the show was so new and they had no idea it would take off. They didn't want to turn people off.

tyra can't be at fault for everything.

Thank you, some one finally needed to point that out. I feel like Tyra can't do ANYTHING right here.

Isn't tranny an offensive word, or do trans folk not mind being called that?

I'm just curious.

Yeah, I was just going to comment on that. Tranny is a claimed label, but ONLY for trans folk in the sex industry (which Isis is obviously not). A little research is all I ask.

I used to think 'Jew' was an offensive term.

It just didn't seem nice.

Isis wasn't taking good pictures. They kept her as long as they could, honestly, and I am glad they didn't turn TM into a soap box. Her appearance on the Tyra show was perfect: it explained her personal struggles, brought to light her conflicts with contestants on the show, etc. Isis didn't release pictures of herself as a man to ANTM because she didn't want it to be an issue. Isis talked about it being "her time to shine" because she thought it was her time to shine as a model, not as a transgender individual. This article reduces her to a "one-dimensional 'victim'" instead of the aspiring model she was on the show.

I agree! Her pictures were pretty awful.

I agree. I'm glad they didn't give her any special treatment.

all the people on the show are reduce to one-dimensional characters. and it sucks for all of them, except maybe the one that wins.

I agree with all of you.

First she had Isis to be an attention hog.
Then when she got rid of Iris it was because the attention wasn't on Tyra anymore.

Worst double standard ever.
Especially since Isis took terrible photos.
