Random Thought

So I was just thinking today about the new Disney moving coming out, The Princess and the Frog. A lot of people are making a big deal about it as a step forward for Disney in terms of racial awareness because it's a Disney princess who isn't white.

What, did everyone forget about Jasmine and Pocahontas? O_o

I don't think it's because she isn't white, it's because she's black.

Mulan isn't "technically" a princess (although she is my favorite). But she totally should go on the list. I don't really see how it's insulting...very weird.

And you reminded me of Disney's Atlantis! Princess Kida wears fur and a big scary mask and has a spear...

Mulan technically shouldn't be a princess, but she sometimes is conisdered one. I've seen some Disney Princess merch with her on it.

Actually, Kida SHOULD be a Princess, because she WAS a princess, wasn't she! And wait, wasn't she black?? She was played by a black actress (who played Elmyra on Tiny Toons, ahaha) and reminded me of X-men's Storm.

I always forget about Atlantis. That movie had soo many cool characters, but it unfortunately had too much story for one movie. If they'd made it a mini series or something it would have rocked.

I guess since she's "Atlantian" it doesn't count as black. : /

> Pocahontas
Reminds me of a rant by someone who processes genealogy claims. Apparently every single (White) person with Native American ancestry is descended from a princess. Especially ones from the majority of tribes that don't have the remotest equivalent to the European title "princess".

> Jasmine
I wonder if there any outcry when they changed her ethnicity. In the original tale, she was princess of China1!

1 A parallel universe China where everyone is Muslim.

What?? Jasmine was Chinese???? Weird!

There was a HUGE outcry when Aladdin came out, actually, because the original movie had lyrics that suggested the Middle Eastern world was full of violent people (ahaha no seriously), and people got mad that the good guys were all whiter and the bad guys were all darker looking. Which is weird, because Jafar wasn't darker than Aladdin. I'm half Iranian, actually, but I'm one of the whitest people I know. You could totally tell by looking at Aladdin and Jasmine's facial features that they were Middle Eastern, though, I never thought they were supposed to be white. I guess people just like complaining.

The original tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp was set in China. So technically that would make Jasmine a Chinese princess. But since 1001 Arabian Nights is associated with the Middle East, it got turned into a random Middle Eastern kingdom instead.
