RPF: Heart Doodles and Popcorn (JB/SG, PG for amand_r)

Every now and then a person needs to eat. It doesn’t matter what it is, an apple, sandwich or a pie snuck in from around the corner when suppose to be on diet, they still need to eat. This leads to the weekly trip to the supermarket where expensive prices, screaming kids and queuing can help to ruin the experience. Everybody has to buy groceries, even the celebrities that you see on TV and sometimes Tesco’s is the place to find them.

Well on this occasion you could.

“Look it seems like milk is on special.”

Scott rolled his eyes before picking up a carton. It had been like this since they had gone past the tins of tuna selling for three for two. Part of him wanted to throttle John since it wasn’t like they couldn’t afford it. No they were ok in that regard.

“So you’re doing it then?” Scott asked carefully placing the carton in the basket, “You’re going to be a villain in Desperate Housewives?”

“Yep and it’s so bloody exciting,” John replied with a huge grin. “We need two cartons,” He added which made Scott sigh.

“I thought there was one left?”

“Finished it this morning,” John explained with a shrug, “Do we need cheese?”

Scott took out the shopping list. It had been written the night before after a thorough search of the fridge, which took longer than normal.  There were doodles of hearts thanks to the phone call afterwards. His eyes spotted an extra item written neatly underneath the hearts. Remember to buy a Valentine’s Day card.

“Well according to the list we don’t,” Scott finally replied, “Why, did you finish that too?”

“No, it’s just I’ve noticed that it was on special.”

Scott shook his head and picked up another carton, “Well we don’t so... yeah,” the real rest of the sentence sounded childish in his mind, they were in their forties not three years old for god’s sake.

John noticed the list lying on top of the box of tissues. He smiled at the hearts and the extra item. It was a step back into reality where Valentine’s Day was coming up and the baby discussion was back on the agenda. They weren’t going to bring it up for months, well at least until after March but John was getting a little too clucky on the subject.

“Do you want to watch Desperate Housewives later?” John asked with his eyes still peeled on the list.

“Yeah, that’s the reason why we did tape it,” Scott replied and slightly blushed, “please don’t...”

“I think it’s sweet,” John explained with a smile, “We all doodle from time to time.”

Scott breathed a sigh of relief, “Yeah I suppose,” he shrugged and picked up the list, “So um Desperate Housewives, yeah we’ll watch it this evening.”

John nodded and took the basket from Scott, “It’s my turn now,” an idea sparked in his mind, “Maybe we can watch it with popcorn.”

Scott slipped his hand into John’s. Yeah that would be fun; it would be like when he was a kid watching the container in the microwave, jumping when there was a sudden ‘pop’. Yeah he missed the silly grins and being told off for taking a handful by his parents. It was a good thing that there was a popcorn machine in the cupboard.

He thought about a little boy jumping up and down shouting, “Look dad, it’s popping,” with a stupid grin on his face. He would pick the boy up and kiss him on the nose, agreeing with the theory that the popping was caused by magic. Scott shook his head. Just another wasted daydream....

“I think there’s a packet in the cupboard,” Scott finally answered with a smile. John kissed him softly on the cheek.

“It’s going to be fun,” John declared happily, “Just us on the couch with the dogs, popcorn and Desperate Housewives.”

“Yeah just us,” Scott liked the sound of that, a lazy night at home without any interruptions. He could already picture a small boy bellyflopping himself on to the couch between them. John started to tickle the boy on the tummy before blowing a raspberry. The boy’s laughter was ringing in his ears.

“What are you thinking about?” John asked.

Scott smiled, “Oh the future and where we are heading.”

They were going to start a family.
