Depp is less creepy than Wilder???

he looks like a freaking child molester in the previews. the hair, the voice... i can't even look at posters without getting a chill. neither of my kids has any desire to see this new version (nor do i), we all love the first one.

Too much to pass up, but only three stars? I don't get it. Then again, you said Million Dollar Baby was perfect and only awarded it 4 and a half stars... so maybe I shouldn't be confused.

The movie lacked heart and unfortunately still pales in comparison to the 1971 film but made up for it in it's weird imagery and humor. it was good and in the time of extremely crappy family films out right now, I welcome it. As for Million Dollar Baby, I still noted there was problems (like how the ending was incredibly unrealistic).

I thought Depp's performance was fantastic personally. This movie was leps and bounds above the first one in my opinion as it was more faithful to the book (Oompa loompa songs and Veruca Salt's fate for example). My only two gripes would be the tacked on ending, which didnt make any sense, and Mike Teavee bing such a science geek instead of a TV addict. I would give the movie 4.5/5 stars.
