Lemme tell you about how I developed emetophobia. I was roughly five or six, And at the time, after school I would stay over at my best friends place[he lived across the street] and his mom would watch me until my mom got off work. I rode the bus home ( Read more... )

Poor baby :( I can totally imagine being scared shitless and feeling horribly awkward in that scenario. The stupid school should have just let you go home.

I remember trying *so hard* to avoid throwing up as a kid. I got over it and I don't care about having a spew now, I even welcome it when I'm feeling bad, but I can see how a bad experience would have a lasting effect.

Same here. I remember being terrified to vomit as a child..nowadays (especially after going through a wonderful, puke filled pregnancy) I don't even bat an eye at the idea of vomiting.

I will say that I do get a bit panicky if I know it's going to happen directly after I eat. The consistency of it all...or something.

Thirding the sentiment. My emetophobia is horrible - not as bad as some people who can't even look at the word vomit (yes, they exist), but bad enough. Thankfully it's down to "I REALLY DON'T LIKE THIS GET ME OUT OF HERE" on my meds. I'm really thankful because the Boy-human isn't phobic in the least and forgets that I am on a regular basis only to remember half way through a story...

*hugs*

I can look at the word vomit, but I'm always scared of what's going to come AFTER it LOL.
There is literally nothing I am more scared of than vomit. Even a bear mauling me is more welcome than vomit. I'm sure I'd feel differently if I got attacked by a bear, but for now, that statement still stands.

I am weird about vomiting too. When I was little, I got sick off hot dogs once and I threw up. My mom slapped me and made me clean it up myself. Add to that the fact that I am pretty sure my babysitter tried to poison me when I lived with my dad and yea...

I have to give credit to one nice teacher, and a nurse that worked there for a few years. They would actually accept that I was panicking bad and try to help me instead of ignoring me.

I still have pretty severe anxiety problems that need to be put in check but I don't know how or where to go about that. Especially with no health insurance. My emetophobia is not so intense anymore, but it may just be because I don't have to face it every day. But when someone gets sick around the house I lock myself up for days. Unfortunately I have a little sister who is like, a virus magnet. >__> my parents think I'm being ridiculous when I do what I do, but I don't know how to explain it to them. Like... say sarah came in with a deadly tarantula? how would you react? well, that reaction would be similar to how I react with vomit.

...okay I think i'll shut up now :D

ALSO DUDE. I know how horribly difficult it is to have no health insurance and get help for anxiety! >__< My mom NEVER understood my emetophobia until recently, when she saw how panicked I was when I was nauseous with the stomach flu. i was wailing and clawing at myself and begging to go to the ER where they would stop me from throwing up. I seriously wanted to die, I looked her in the face and told her 'i would rather die than this' and I think the UTTER TERROR she saw convinced her. now she doesn't roll her eyes when I tell her issues it causes.

We should be friends, it is always nice to have someone to talk to about this stuff. :D I can also maybe give you some tips on getting help with your anxiety-- But that's not TMI so it has to happen somewhere else.

ALSO ALSO. [fail, forgot this last time] Every time someone is sick with a virus in my house I IMMEDIATELY pack my shit, get in my car, and go stay at my boyfriends. My mom felt nauseous one night. I was walking into the kitchen and she goes 'I don't feel good' I froze '...what kind of don't feel good?' 'the kind you don't like' I turned on my heel, ran to my room, slammed the door and packed half a weeks worth of clothes. "We gotta leave, Boyfriend, mom's sick" within five minutes we were on the road and I was popping a zanax to keep from crying.

You gave great tips. I'll think about all the things you said the next time I start panicking...
