Macs? Apeture?

I'm sure I posted about Chris getting his new computer a couple months ago. It really is a nice computer, but the thing I really like is the Mac OS X. It has the best of both Windows and Linux. Plus, they are releasing this new photoshop-like program called Appeture. It looks awesome! It gives you all the power of Photoshop, but you can do ( Read more... )

OS X rocks. I can execute Fortran scripts from Matlab locally, for example, and it's so nice to have both Unix and a non-flaky Desktop environment. My little petite powerbook is maxed out on everything, and I'm happy with it except for the cosmetic issues, but they've been great about repairs (case bent a bit around the ports, and they fixed it right away, but in shipping it back something went screwy with the LCD screen, but it just came back and looks good now!).

I'm excited to hear about Appeture!!! Ask Chris if they have anything out that's good for simple webpage editing other than BBEdit? Something like a Frontpage. GoLive I'm learning, but as with all Adobe products, the curve is steep (whip-lash select images? Whaaa?). Sigh.

Photoshop CS has that nice Automate Web Photo Gallery feature now, and I hear Picasa is good too, from Hrefna, but I haven't played with it myself, yet.

The ability to have unix style stuff and a non-flay desktop is exactly what I would love too. I've used linux for years and years now and I am SO FRUSTRATED with how much effort it takes to do anything. For example: setting up sound. Why should that be so difficult? I would to click on a few things and have it just work ( ... )

I'm not a Mac user so I really don't have any advice to offer, except that if that's what you really want & you think it would meet your needs, go for it! :D Maybe it's something you could put on your Christmas wish list, or something? ;) I know you guys have been spending a lot of $$ on your house lately, but hopefully eventually you'll be able to justify spending the $$ on a good new computer for you. That photo editing program sounds pretty cool! I use Photoshop a fair amount at work & it's a good program, but it's so expensive to buy it. I'm glad I have it at work because then I can sneak my personal projects in there & use it on my own time...hee hee! I can even access my work desktop from home & use the program remotely - I just tried it for the first time the other night. It was great! I edited my photo & then emailed it from my work email to my personal email. :) If I could get my FTP program to work I could have transferred the file that way, but oh well, email worked fine too ( ... )

I will think about it for awhile and try to use Chris when he is not using it. I also use Photoshop and its great for editing pictures (although can be a pain to learn). I dont have the latest photoshop though because its sooo expensive.

Hmmm... anyways its not important now, just pondering.
