Recommended Comics, Part 1

You can blame blade for this. He asked me to give him 50 or so recommended reads in comics/graphic novels. I decided to put them on here so all my fine friends can enjoy.

Couple of things about this (never complete) list: I am going to try and organize it by writer, because that makes the most sense to me, and because that's how my shelves are ( Read more... )

Also, at some point I had better see Hellblazer, Lucifer, Queen & Country, and Sandman listed.

I also can't believe you left Planetary off of the Warren Ellis list...probably one of the most interesting stories ever told in comic form, or any other form for that matter. Dude is a genius.

Yes, but the genius of Planetary relies on the reader having a fairly large amount of comic book knowledge, and since I am compiling this list primarily for blade, who hasn't read (with a few exceptions) comics in a long time, I figured it was better left for later days, when he's got other stuff under his belt.

Plus Planetary isn't available in its entirety in trade yet, and it's one of those stories that (I believe) will be most effective if read all the way through, like Animal Man, etc.

Alan Moore's "Killing Joke" is one of my favorite Batman books....but you're right on the money with Year One and DK Returns.
