I've just added the new tag, and will do Bard and Galion as well!

What a relief for them to hear news of their homes at last! Despite the 'great ruin of fire' in Mirkwood, at least Legolas knew his father was alive and well :)

Fab, thx :-)

They must, secretly, have been very anxious - and there was fire and ruin, but Gloin and Thranduil both survived. I wanted to show them sharing that relief.

That first news from home must have been such a relief - the worry must have been there, gnawing away inside, almost all the time.

I think it was - Ziggy, of course, makes such good use of it in her Legolas fic - but as soon as Gimli and Legolas make that moment to think about it, in Rohan, they know war is encroaching in the North as well as the South. And then of course it would have been weeks at the very least before any news could get through.

Yes - I was thinking of Ziggy's use of that fear, too.

Well done! I particularly like the image of them "comparing news and notes."

I could see them straight away; initially I thought they might just swap parchments, but then remembered that even if Gloin wrote in Westron, he'd do so using Dwarven runes, and Gimli neither reads tengwar nor knows more than a word or two of Sindarin, so they'd have to fill each other in...

Exactly what I wanted to get at; that, for Aragorn, is just as much the "small, unexpected extra happiness" as the news that their kin are alive, so delighted that shone through for you!

How relieved they must be for that news!
