You know, I'm not sure that I've ever read a first meeting between Aragorn and Bilbo that didn't take place in Rivendell. Great use of that line to have them come across each other earlier, and I love the way you've used the prompt word: great description!

I couldn't remember whether Bilbo and Aragorn could have overlapped at this stage; in general Aragorn's meant to be journeying in the south and east of M-E, but as HASA Resources points out, he can't have been far away at this particular point, because Gandalf gets word to him about Gollum and they start the search. So I thought I could get away with it. (And as for "bequeath", I am never knowingly under-prompted ;-) - it gets shoehorned in somehow!)

What a good meeting to have on his journey.

I was chuffed that it turned out to be do-able! It would have been another, random Ranger if not, but having it be Aragorn was more satisfying.

I like the idea of this encounter, and thinking about what they might discuss around the fire.
