I wanted to get across the sense of effort, and how far he had to come back - we know how weary Aragorn was after healing Faramir and the others. I'm glad you found it evocative - thank you for the feedback.
For the first time I was struck by the similarity between Námo's summons to the riven fëar of fallen Elves (or a particular stricken Maia) and the calling of Aragorn to those who have come so very close under the shadow of the Gates of Death. Yes, I found myself first thinking of Gandalf and the Balrog and the passing through fire and water, out of time itself; and how closely aligned in their ways were Mithrandir and Faramir, thought the Wizard's pupil, in what they experienced!
Wow - I didn't have any of that consciously in mind, but you're right, it's an interesting parallel! I always love it when readers find layers of things in my writing that I wasn't aware I'd put there - thank you.
