Nice, very very nice. You have evoked the extent of the records kept as well as the efforts expended to find and confirm the identity of Frodo's ring. I liked this a lot.

It's fairly clear from Gandalf's description in LoTR that even for him, tracking down Isildur's scroll in the archives was a big job. The longer fic I mentioned goes into considerably more detail!

I like the brief mention of Faramir, and the implication that Faramir meant something to Gandalf - a great snapshot of a very significant moment in the late Third Age...
