That's so Bilbo - stubbornly knowing his own mind. Lovely! And it strikes me that it's very appropriate for Frodo to muse on the crossing of rivers, given that the crossing of not only Anduin but the Bruinen was very significant in his story...
Yes, he did cross two important rivers during his journey at moments of deep stress and to a great change in his life--and three if you also count the Nimrodel following the loss of Gandalf.
