Title: Aftermath Character: Boromir, Faramir Rating: G Warnings: AU. A little dark. Source: LOTR Disclaimer: These characters belong to Tolkien. I make no money from this
brilliant. so dark and sinister and sad. i love what if here, the breaking of typical assumptions that faramir is infallible, as well as the idea of them traveling together.
the visual of the last line is powerful. thank you.
I don't see Faramir as infallible (or Denethor as an ogre for that matter), but much more interesting than that. I was trying to envisage a sitation where the brothers would turn on each other, and thought that if their power dreams had shattered and they were hunted, hungry and trapped they would perhaps do just that. I am relly pleased you liked this, despite it being rather dark. Thank you for letting me know.
I am very glad to hear just that actually, as I will probably write more dark mini AUs. I see Denethor as something of a tragic hero who did not realise that he was being manipulated before it was too late and as the parent who finds it easier to get on with the son who does not resemble him that the one who does but who loves both his sons equally at the end of the day. It is this kind of dynamic that makes the House of Hurin so fascinating of course.
Yes, I think it could very easily have happended. (When I visualise a world where the ring was not destroyed I always think of The Road, possibly because the upcoming film has Viggo Mortensen in it). Thank you for reading.
Funny you should mention that... I must have seen four reviews today with stills from the Road - and that painfully haggard look of drained despair is just what came to mind as I read your drabble.
Yes, it could all have gone so very wrong for the Brothers Hurinion.
"The Road" was very much at the back of my mind when I wrote this even if the events are different. (I have read the book. I found it very good, very bleak but not without hope.) Thank you for reading!
I am glad you liked the image of the Ring as an unfaithful lover so to speak. I know that this drabble isn't exactly cheerful though. So thank you for reading and commenting!
Mini AUs are a wonderful thing, and the dark ones are especially delightful. And this one especially because it maintains the treachery of the Ring instead of just presenting an as-is state of corruption. Wonderful!
Thank you! Yes, this is really about the aftermath, when the Ring is gone from them and just about everything else as well. I will probably write more dark AU drabbles. I am delighted that you liked this one.

They wielded its power...as ash-rain fell on blood-tinted rivers.
But the Ring is unfaithful...
This encompasses a whole alternate world in so few words. Beautifully done! I love this image of the Ring as an unfaithful seducer especially.
Thank you!
