I like the last line. It's a nice idea, teaching a child about a hero who fell long ago, and without whom all would have been lost.

Oh, pretty. And sad, of course.

The end is powerful -- the sudden realization that the drabble is direct address, and the audience is a child. I can picture a parent tucking the flower behind his/her child's ear, as this is explained.
